I support waiting until you get approved not just pretending immigration laws dont exist and merrily strolling across while Democrats look the other way.

Who could oppose a border wall and sane policy I proposed?
I just don’t like wasting money, and a border wall is a huge waste of money. I can’t imagine you like wasting money so I’m confused as to why you want to waste it here.

The solution here is simple - way, WAY more legal immigrants and a streamlined process to have more people immigrate here. That’s what economic success looks like.

What Trump is doing is basically the North Korea strategy. He would rather us be ‘pure’ and poor than cosmopolitan and rich.

Once again Trump can't keep his lies straight
That's when Trump's insanity was restrained by his handlers, the Republican Party.
In typical fascist style, he has long since purged any Republican who is not MAGA, who is not a boot licking yes-man.
Now the people surrounding Trump only tell him what they think he wants to hear.

People on the streets? Insurrection! Military!!! Dew it!

His description in 2020 is what this law actually says. He just realized he doesn’t need to follow the law any more.

Roughly 500 Marines based out of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in California have been mobilized to respond to the protests in Los Angeles, according to three people familiar with the matter, and will join the National Guard troops that were activated by President Donald Trump over the weekend without the consent of California’s governor or the city’s mayor.

The deployment of the full Marine battalion marks a significant escalation in Trump’s use of the military as a show of force against protesters, but it is still unclear what their task will be once in LA, the sources said.

No, you support the immigration process being so terrible and onerous that people end up coming in illegally instead. As many others have pointed out, the bills democrats put forth include more funding to process people and get them in legally, but republicans always shoot it down. Instead you support stupid symbolic gestures like a wall that people just end up circumventing because we haven't fixed the root problem.

You've also ignored the fact that people going through the legal process are being targeted by ICE anyways, along with groups that were here legally having their status unceremoniously changed after the fact making them "illegal". You'll hand wave this away though, claiming they didn't deserve it, kind of like how right wingers claim asylum doesn't apply to whomever they feel like.

So far the protests are relatively small. From hundreds to a few thousands here and there, tiny by LA standards. The population of just LA county is greater than the entire state of New Jersey. If the admin is trying to precipitate something larger they could well get way more than they've bargained for.

There's pretty specific limitations on deploying non-Guard military on American soil, IIRC?

In a Constitutional Republic, sure.
What makes you think we are still that country?

I'll remind you, it ALL just comes down to the will of the President. Declaring emergencies.
Now, technically, Congress has a say. If they bothered. If they wanted to. (They don't).
Courts could declare it otherwise... but could take months or years to settle there. And the President can just ignore them anyway.

Revolutions require a little bit of luck and dictators overplaying their hand.

It shouldn't be up to one person, that's a fundamental mistake.
Was probably a mistake to have the executive use of force loyal to a single person.
Congress and SCOTUS each need a military force to enforce the laws.

You are correct, all our eggs are in one basket.

I find it hard to believe all of the LAPD and CA National Guard are loyal to Trump and support beating and harming protestors. I'd be curious to know if any of them object to what's going on.

Normally it wouldn't be, but the GOP has abdicated their duty to the American people and the Constitution and installed a bunch of cronies and lackeys in the roles where previously people loyal to the US rather than an authoritarian leader would have intervened. Democrats are, of course, also complicit in this failure.

Some folks forget history. In the 92 LA riots, they damn near burned down 32 square miles.

They don't have to be loyal to trump necessarily. They just need to be loyal to the system
