Marijuana users are going to start injecting THC

When they can't get their kicks by snorting it anymore.

As a member of the Amendment 64 task force who is deeply troubled by the possible repercussions of legalizing marijuana, as well as a central figure in the national anti-pot organization Project SAM, Dr. Christian Thurstone is controversial in the marijuana community. But he hasn't backed away from warning about the dangers of weed, particularly for adolescent users.

His latest assertion? Users may soon start directly injecting THC, the active ingredient in cannabis, rather than smoking or ingesting marijuana.

"It seems like people are doing more and more to get a deeper high and presenting to us more and more addiction to marijuana," says Thurstone, whose main gig is as medical director of a Denver Health program called Substance Abuse Treatment, Education and Prevention (STEP). "I worry that might be a next step toward the injection of THC."

I don't smoke and I can't stand the smoking aspect of MJ.

The lungs feel like crap. Your mouth feels like crap. Your head feels like crap.

That's one of the primary reason I've only done it 3-4 times in my life.

Inhaling smoke is not my idea of fun, either.

Especially since I have asthma... which hasn't affected me in daily life for a few years now, but the idea of smoking anything seems abhorrent to me. Even if there are minimal side effects, I don't care about getting any sort of high. I'm naturally high.

^ Sounds like an 80s afterschool special

Vaporizer.

I don't 'smoke' pot that often, but I recently hurt my neck and found myself dipping into my roommates stash at the end of the day. To say it helps is an understatement.

*Doctor suggested I try it (in Illinois, where its unlawful) if I had 'safe' access, as it was better than me eating Ibuprofen like candy or resorting to narcotics.

I found my throat being aggravated from smoking (i'm not an expert) and a few of the coughs freaked me out since I've had a bad inguinal hernia repair done. A coworker recommended i pick up a magic flight box, which is essentially a basic, handheld vaporizer.

Works amazingly well. It's odorless, doesn't feel like smoke, and doesn't irritate me. Actually, you barely feel like you are breathing anything other than air, which can certainly make cause for suprise, when you think you're barely getting a hit and 5 minutes later it hits you like a freight train. I had to learn to be careful with it since you don't feel it in your lungs like you do smoke.

My neck was really bothering me (pinched nerve that gets annoyed and causes inflammation) a few weeks ago, and I had to go to a bachelor party that I paid $250 for. Included all inclusive VIP box at the St. Louis Blues game, party bus, etc. I just brought the MFLB with me, and was able to use it IN PUBLIC, right next to people and they didn't know I was doing anything.

Through legalization and regulation, applications like what I mentioned will become more common... NOT people injecting pure thc. Why would I inject THC when I can breath it without smoke and get MORE than enough? Doesn't make any sense. Education is key. Now that I have the MLFB and I know it only takes a few small drags, I'm not really harming myself at all. In fact, I feel more guilt in drinking a soda now.

Marijuana is already so strong half a joint makes you go insane. What point would there be in injecting it? BTW by "insane" from a THC high, I mean something entirely different than insane from any other kind of high. Insane as in:

"Oh god I'm so fucking stoned".

"I think I've been sitting in this comfy chair forever".

"Seriously. It's been at least a year since I smoked that bowl".

"I like this chair...isn't that what I was thinking about a second ago"?

"I think I'll sit in it for another forever".

"Who's hungry"?

People have difference tolerance levels, I have some stuff 2 hits would make most people completely useless. But at the same time I know people who could smoke half a joint of it and hardly be buzzed.

meh, I would turn down half a joint cuz it would only hurt my lungs.

exception: I'm at a concert and I don't give a fuck.

Pure THC IIRC breaks down quickly with contact with air (I may be wrong), in any event the strains of pot that are around today have much, much more THC and are very potent, 2-3 hits and I'm done, I don't see the need for injection and if the smoke bothers you that much it can always be eaten or made into a beverage or vape'd as demonstrated in above post's..

Do people actually get "addicted" to MJ or THC? I mean, is it an addiction like nicotine. I smoked pounds when I was in college, but once I graduated, the gig was up for me and had no problems stopping. But I'm addicted to nicotine and can't quit the shit.

Not physically as in alcohol or heroin in which there are significant withdrawals but psychologically, yes, if your used to being stoned your not gonna like being sober. I've never heard of anyone committing armed robbery to get cash for weed but there have plenty of armed robberies where the person demanded oxycodone at gunpoint..

There's not a physical addiction like nicotine or opiates or anything, but there can certainly be a mental addiction, and if you're a really heavy user you could have some withdrawal like effects, but it's not true withdrawal anything close to actual withdrawals with nicotine/opiates. You may not sleep well a few nights if you are a blaze every day smoker then quit.

...and that demonstrates exactly why pot is still illegal. Who in their right mind would want a rx of synthetic heroine if they could just use some dirt cheap plant with almost zero side effects?

I don't use it. Can't stand it ever since I did my time in the military. But I think its time this irrational reefer madness bs ends.

That guy's an idiot... Nobody's going to inject THC when you could just eat the stuff. I suspect very few people smoke as much of it as they possibly can to see how high they get. It's one of those drugs where a small amount brings on a very pleasant experience, and I think most people use it that way.

What are you doing in OT?? You haven't updated your (lack of a) workout log in H&F in two days!!

You've been getting high, and forgot to go for your walk, didn't you?

Injecting it just seems strange. If people don't want to smoke it they should eat it (not that I have any idea of the "state of the art" in edibles, most people I've met bake it in cookies or whatever.)
