"After Washington and Colorado, the pot business is, if not mainstream, at least ready to push toward it. Advocates hope to legalize personal use in another 14 states by 2017, mostly among the 16 states besides Washington and Colorado where medical pot is legal (it's also legal in Washington, D.C.). Industry estimates say today's $1.5 billion legal market could quadruple by 2018."
--USAToday

According to recent Pew Research Center poll, a majority of Americans (52%) favored legalization.

What say you?

Does your perception agree with the Pew Research Center poll?

Of course we should legalize it. It's no more dangerous than tobacco or alcohol, both of which are perfectly legal, and is contributing to a pointless drug war.

Legalizing marijuana will be good for prison populations, gun deaths, and will overall improve things for everybody. If there are negative repercussions of overuse or long-term use, they will come to light and be dealt with much like smoking has been.

The only reasons to oppose its legalization are moralistic rationalizations of the previous generation.

I have no interest in using this stuff, but all I can say is that it's about time. I think this country has wasted far too many resources on the illegality of this. Wanna turn the tables? Make it legal and tax the crap out of it. Seemed to work to tobacco.

It really should be legal. I can't see it being any worse then alcohol. If anything maybe it'll help more people chill the hell out lol.

It should be legal, but that doesn't mean that the problems will just go away. Here in Ca. it's legal to grow, but remember that a single plant will fetch thousands of dollars on the black/grey market. A dozen plants growing in your backyard is an invitation to a quick dash and grab robbery or after a harvest a home invasion robbery. It's a lot of cash money with a free and open market available.

Don't forget that when legal most people will be high driving around. I dunno man... If you smoke that shit that 10-20X stronger than what it was yesterday you can barely walk let alone drive... I think it will be interesting just to see how high the THC content can get from the plant. Ah well...

IE... Stupid people will never stop smoking it making them super stupid.

This is such a weak argument. I would be more than willing to bet that the rate of buzzed driving would be not different than the percentage of people who do the same with alcohol, a substance that impairs the user a hell of a lot more than weed ever will.

Most people that will get high when it's legal, already get high... man.

Plus, most people can drive just fine when high man. You have to really over do it.

I'd rather do 5 bong rips of strong stuff and drive in traffic than be cold sober and attempt to text while driving. Why? Because it's much more dangerous to text and drive.

Yip. I've seen in just about every show on TV about, and the growers I know personally, they have some heavy artillery laying around for just such an event. You don't hear about it often, but until there is full legalization, they are still prized targets.

Great post. All arguments against legalization are strawman arguments.

There is no point in legalizing if they're going to continue to "tax the crap out of it". In VA, it should be legalized and taxed under the general sales tax if at all.

False choice. How about you do neither? Texting and driving is illegal.

Generally speaking, yes. One of the main points behind legalizing it is to eliminate the black market for it along with all of the social issues that creates.

What Is The Best Way To Invest In The Marijuana Industry?

Author cites several ways to invest including entertainment.

"Entertainment - I’ve said it before and will say it again, the first person to open up a marijuana arcade will be rich."

I keep reading that the Federal Government wants to stimulate the economy. Legalization would seem to be a pretty economical way to do that.

The Black Market profit margins leave a LOT of leeway to "tax the crap out of it", and it still be cheaper than it is now.

Drugs like Marijuana, if in fact they make people feel mellow and relaxed, could cut down on the number of wars people here would want to fight making us vulnerable to invasion, not to mention the tremendous hit to the economy that would be caused by the loss of the military industrial complex that forms such a huge part of our economy. All that money wisely spent on defense would be freed up to build a nation with the finest living standards in the world, increasing, here again, the risk of invasion as we just cause others to become more and more jealous of what we have. And there's also the problem of folk who are relaxed and happy not wanting to do meaningless jobs. Who is going to run GE if you can go to the park, lay on the grass with family and friends, stare up in the sky, and be totally happy? And if it helps with physical and mental pain of various kinds as some say, think of the hit that would deal to the medical industry. These are the kinds of hits that can hit back hard. It is the blessings of so called paranoid conservative minds that have all these years saved us from these dangers. You know, I hope, that it was the Marijuana plant and the mushroom, not the apple tree, that bore the Forbidden Fruit of Knowledge. Have a care. This could be the red pill in disguise, a Black Swan event, a foretelling of the end times known as the Singularity.

the real, safe, money is in the equipment to grow marijuana. my guess, in 10 years we see a pot growing section in every home depot.
