are there any media refs to any of this ?? with links .

Not sure about 'media links' other than I've been watching (or listening) to the CNN internet feed. The final debate is just starting.

You previously missed a steady stream of:

""I ask unanimous consent to revise and extend my remarks in opposition to this flawed health care bill""

Haha. This one comment at FDL, probably sums up everything.😀

NOW “Incensed” Over Obama Executive Order on Abortion

By: Jane Hamsher Sunday March 21, 2010 3:35 pm

Now Statement on Obama’s Executive Order on Abortion:
President Obama Breaks Faith with Women
Statement of NOW President Terry O’Neill
The National Organization for Women is incensed that President Barack Obama agreed today to issue an executive order designed to appease a handful of anti-choice Democrats who have held up health care reform in an effort to restrict women’s access to abortion. Through this order, the president has announced he will lend the weight of his office and the entire executive branch to the anti-abortion measures included in the Senate bill, which the House is now prepared to pass.
President Obama campaigned as a pro-choice president, but his actions today suggest that his commitment to reproductive health care is shaky at best. Contrary to language in the draft of the executive order and repeated assertions in the news, the Hyde Amendment is not settled law — it is an illegitimate tack-on to an annual must-pass appropriations bill. NOW has a longstanding objection to Hyde and, in fact, was looking forward to working with this president and Congress to bring an end to these restrictions. We see now that we have our work cut out for us far beyond what we ever anticipated. The message we have received today is that it is acceptable to negotiate health care on the backs of women, and we couldn’t disagree more.

You would think some Radical and never done before was being attempted here.

Protip: The US is way behind the curve regarding HealthCare System/Funding.

Sorry.

cross-posting because I have no idea which is "the" HC thread...

ultimately, I think the bill is better than nothing... but better than nothing is a long ways away from "good"

I get the impression that a lot of the people really celebrating its passage are more excited about victory over republicans rather than its lackluster content.

I feel like all congress is doing is taking our broken system and forcing everyone onto it.

Goes both ways.

Tapping out on the C-SPAN coverage. These reps from both sides are just repeating the same 2-3 points over and over again.

If it was to be seconds away from failure, do you seriously think no one would be celebrating it?

I will celebrate when this bill is defeated. Either legislatively defeated OR when it loses in court as it is very much at odds with the Constitution. There is NO place in the Constitution where it says the Feds can force you to purchase something from a private(or otherwise) business.

So yes there will be those of us who value our freedom and the Constitution who will celebrate this so-called "reform" bill's defeat. 🙂

This bill will make an excellent foundation for the next 6 years of health care reform related legislation from Obama and the Democrats. A real public option will be on the plate soon enough.

Congrats Obama and the Dems. America takes its first baby steps towards health care on par with the rest of the western world.

Calling this bill excellent proves you are deluded.

There is a 3rd option: With 37 states currently considering legislation exempting themselves from this bill they could always call a Constitutional Convention.

There is no need as there is no provision for the Feds to do this anyway. 🙂 But yes, it is good to see the states lining up to oppose this power grab by the feds. I wish my state wasn't fully blue(at the moment) so we could put something in place to block this disaster. I guess I'll have to wait until November for that. 🙂

Cliffs from the last hour:

Stenny Hoyer --- Thanks all the moms in America.

Some Yahoo from Georgia: "The problem with Socialism ... "

Upton from Mich: "Folks are scared .... We're going to raid $500 billion from Medicare ... "

Dingal from Mich: " Today ranks with the day we passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 ..."

Sterns from Florida: "The Bill will hurt veterans and seniors ... and will provide gov't mandated abortions ... "

Whitfield from Ken: "How can you strengthen Medicare by cutting $500 billion ... health reform may be necessary ..."

Markey from Nebraska: "The Republicans are the Party of No .... GOP stands for Grandstand, Oppose and Postpone"

Shaddock of Ariz: "This Bill will destroy freedom ... this Bill is unAmerican and unConstitutional"

Bono from Cal: " ... a massive gov't bureaucracy (intrusion?) on health care decisions ..."

Sensibrener Wisc ---- Complains about Obama condemning Bush's use of executive orders ...

Pitts from PA: The gov't will pay for abortions (!!!) Obama is the most pro-abortion president in the history of the universe (!!!)

I missed the 'Turbo Tax' for pre-natal care or something like that .... It seemed to get the place rockin' --- along with Grandstand, Oppose and Postpone.

I can't help but roll my eyes at all the "zomg socialist" comments.

we should be so lucky for this bill to be half as socialistic as they're claiming it is.

There are already 28 states with standing calls for a Constitutional Convention so all it would take is 6 more. There were actually 32 but 3 have rescinded their calls and Nevada "purged" their call.

NY will quietly sit by while it self destructs, but I hope we get enough states.

Senate vote in 1965 on Medicare:

Yeas:
D's - 57
R's - 13

Edit: That should be 13 Yeas ---- and 17 Nays for the R's.

So I guess I'm calling that Rep a liar.

That's an interesting tidbit. The predicted cost of medicare then for 1990 was 10 billion. It was ten times that.

I love an optimist.
