Bud Light is cheap and viewed to be not quite as bad as the Beast or Natty Light. College kids eat that up. It is like American Eagle. It is an affordable designer brand just cool enough people eat it up.
Man IDK I personally don't care for BL and our clientele was largely older folks. Coors didn't even sell as well. My mind was constantly blown. I'd put 24 packs on the rack and not even an hour would go by and someone would be like "hey where's your 24pk of BL?"

What kind of retarded methodology did the pollsters use? To figure out the top beer, they relied on a poll, but then to figure out how much the average person drank, they compared the amount reported via the poll to the number of drinks actually sold. If they have access to the latter data, it makes the former poll completely pointless. Further, the average male is "buzzed" nearly 1 in every 3 days? I don't believe that for a moment. What'd they do? Exclusively poll college students?

1. Bud light
2. Coors light (or Budweiser)
3. Budweiser (or Coors light; the order seems to change back and forth)
4. Miller Lite
5. Busch Light
6. Busch
7. Mich Ultra
8. Miller
9. Keystone Light
10. Natural Light

Blue Moon's not even in the top 10 by sales - no way they can be #1. Ditto (sorry) Yeungling.

Come on california, dos equis and pacifico are so much better than corona. As for Blue Moon and bud light, I don't know wtf to say. Those are some pretty foul beverages. The last time I got a bud light I was at a baseball game and it was "cheap", 5 dollars a cup. After taking a sip I would have passed if it was free. I ended up chugging it hoping to catch at least get buzzed, but I'm pretty sure you would have to drink a 12 pack to catch a buzz.

Not a chance. If Colorado really hates Bud Light then the top beer there will be Coors Light or Miller Lite. Maybe Pabst. It damn sure won't be Blue Moon and Blue Moon won't outsell Bud Light. If they hate Bud then Bud Light will only outsell Blue Moon by 5-1 instead of 50-1.

Colorado is an oddity. It's got a majority of it's population skewed towards more metro areas that are fairly trendy/progressive. It also has a very active craft beer community and a number of popular crafter brewers in state. It also is home to Coors (which makes Blue Moon). I wouldn't be surprised at all if it did actually favor Blue Moon over an AB brew.

Most of the older folks I know drink Miller or regular Bud. Except for the diabetics. They drink Shiner Bock (at least in Texas).

Frankly I'm surprised it wasn't that "Alamo" beer or whatever all you Texans drink....

lonestar_secede_ad.jpg

Not bad for cheap beer. Not my favorite Texas beer though, that would be something by Real Ale.

I can't find a breakdown by state from a quick google search, but Bud Light in 2012 sold around 270 million cases compared to the almost 102 million cases of Bud and Coors. That is a lot of ground for Coors to make up in Colorado.

Sadly, it is extremely easy to find the best selling craft brew in Colorado. =(

Stash is great.

No surprise at BL being the top seller in TX though. BL dominates the hispanic market, even over Corona and the like from what I've seen.

So I got curious and decided to see what the top selling beers are here. Found the stats for Ontario according to the Beer Store.

1. Coors Light
2. Molson Canadian
3. Budweiser
4. Labatt Blue
5. Bud Light
6. Carling Lager (made by Molson)
7. Busch
8. Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale
9. Heineken
10. Lakeport Pilsner (made by Labatt)

I'm surprised Lakeport is so low. Used to be very popular back when they had their "buck a beer" campaign. Of course that was before the gov't raised the minimum price. As for Carling, I don't know anybody that drinks Carling. Seems a bit high on the list but these are their official sales figures.

Most of the beers on here are standard bar stock. Every single bar and restaurant has at least the top five on tap or in bottles.

My go to bar beers are usually Rickards Red, or Keith's Red if they don't have the former. They're the ones I like most of the macro brews. I'm warming up to Guinness though. At home I drink mostly local beers. Stone Hammer, Lake of Bays, Cameron's. Occasionally British regional beers.

Corona is reserved for special occasions for the demographic. :sneaky:

Alamo beer has never touched my lips. There are too many, damn good, microbreweries in this state for that mess.

Man it's embarrassing with both St. Arnold's & Shiner here, Bood light is Texas' choice.

It is very similar to Sunshine, a citrusy wheaty beer. Very delicious especially when a shot of orange juice is added, also known as a Brass Monkey. Having worked at a liquor store in Colorado over the summer, Bud Lite flew out the door. Comparatively Blue Moon sales are miniscule. At least in six packs, the sales do not reflect the map. I couldn't believe how popular BL was. We'd go through a hundred cases of 24pk BL in less than a week. Singles and the tap at bars are a different story. BM is very popular outside of liquor stores.

bud light is the top selling beer. bud light by itself nearly outsells coors light (#2), bud (#3) and miller lite (#4).

i don't even find it being in the top 20 anywhere.

i'd really like to see this list of 17 beers.

anyway, i like sam adams summer ale and blue moon (belgian, not any of that pumpkin/blueberry crap), but my favorite is hefeweizen.

The survey probably went like this:

Pick your favorite beer from this list:
1) Blue Moon
2) Bud Lite
3) Yeungling
4) Corona
5) Sam Adams

yeah the only explanation would be the question being "what is your favorite beer" instead of "what do you drink most of the time"? there's no way blue moon is that popular.

I believe 10000% it's true in Colorado. I've seen it

PS: I've only lived in CO and IN and both of them hate Bud light

i agree with this. bud light is not a popular beer in colorado. i go to quite a few pro sporting events and i see A LOT of people drinking blue moon. and liquor stores seem to have more cases of BM than any other beer.

before i looked at the map i was guessing either blue moon or fat tire.

personally i dont like blue moon, a bit too much citrus flavors for me.

and there is a budweiser plant in Ft Collins that also houses a team of clydesdales.

Of the beers represented in that poll, Sam Adams is the only one I'd drink even in a pinch. I very much doubt that either Sam Adams or Blue Moon is the best selling beer in any state, though I'd like to believe that SA is the best selling beer in the northeast. I would think the best selling beer in every state would be Miller Lite, Bud, Bud Light, Coors or Coors Light (none of which I have drunk in at least a decade).
