I can understand that point of view, but my situation is that my dad loves this car because of how well he's taken care of it and he's had it for quite some time. I don't plan on going against him at all, but since I feel fortunate to even have a car right when I turn 16, I plan on just going by his rules.
That being said, doesn't mean I won't accelerate a little faster, but obviously within limit and nothing to form a habit. Like love1u0 said, I'll probably shift at 3k even though when I was doing 3k in 1st gear by mistake once my dad was wondering what I was doing and told me to stop talking to my brother and focus on driving.
I'm going to try out shifting at 2500 rpm for first gear because I also prefer a quiet ride and then gears after that I'll do between 2.5k and 3k RPM. The other thing is my dad can shift at 2500 RPM for most gears including first and keep up with other cars at stop lights, stop signs, etc. so I know its not all in the RPM, its also efficiency on the driver's part, which in this case seems to have a bigger effect than say the engine itself or the RPM's I shift it at.
I'll probably shift between 2500 rpm and 3000 rpm now but I'm going to focus on efficiency of changing gears because I know you don't need to shift at 4k every time to keep up with other cars on the road in terms of accelerating.
Walleye - Thanks for the tips especially about using the clutch, I think that will change my acceleration quite a bit once I get more practice with it.
Thanks everyone! for all!![]()
Shifting at such low rpm strains the engine if you are trying to accelerate quickly. Your dad doesn't know what he is doing if he yells at you for shifting at 3k.
Lugging the engine is bad....
definitely.....the engine is producing calulated combustions that result in about a minimum of 1000rev/s. ....imagine if you force it to go slower....NOT GOOD>
