The first volley IS justified, given he raised the weapon. The police should NOT be lying, claiming he was swinging. The second officer should be put on probation for the second volley. The first questioned why he fired 5 times. The ballistics done to see whose shots hit the sign, and that officer reprimanded for not watching his fire.

they shot 5 times because they didn't think they were getting video taped. had they known, they would'nt have been so trigger happy.

this is why i say that cameras should be mandatory on police guns

Deadly force is deadly force. Once it's justified you don't count bullets, you stop the threat. Whether it's one bullet or five. Now the second volley when the guy is on the ground, yeah, I can see the issue there.
 
Here is an idea. Don't threaten the police with a pipe?
(God, why is this so hard to comprehend for some people)
 
Probably justified, the thing that I don't understand though is why didn't the cop with the dog let him loose? Could've potentially avoided opening fire entirely b/c those dogs will take you down even if you're armed with something like the pipe that guy had.

Shouldn't counter deadly force with a dog - good way to get the dog killed.
 
fuck that guy, he looked like he was cocking back to hit the officer with whatever the fuck that object was, and that object looked like it would fuck the cop up.

and if you shoot, you shoot to kill.

By that logic you simply shouldn't use dogs at all. It's quite possible to kill a dog while you're unarmed, granted not easy but quite possible. There really wasn't much distance to cover between the dog & the suspect either so I kindof doubt that he could've even gotten a swing off before the dog was on him.
 
and just because that video doesn't show the moron swinging his weapon 2x at the cop doesn't mean it didnt happen before. that is probably what the story is about, as far as him swinging 2x at the cops in the news report.

when would it have happened before? in the restaurant? I think lethal violence in this instance was not warranted.

yes, possibly? those kids obviously didn't start filming until the cops were there and already in the middle of something.

The video starts as people are still running out of the store and the suspect hasn't exited yet. The cops never went inside. They were waiting outside. You saw the whole interaction. How can you say he was swinging earlier?
 
Watched the video twice. First time I was like, "Wow overreaction from that one cop. 10 bullets, seriously?" Read thread. Went, "Let's watch it again... >_>"

Ok, first off, from the video: The guy comes out, gets tazed, rips it off, then fucking raises the god damn thing he has like he's about to swing it at the cop. Guy with K9 unloads one series of 4-5 shots. Then the other police officer fires his own volley of 4-5.

That said, the dude had it coming. I would not expect non-lethal force at that point. Whether or not they did 1 shot or 50 does not matter. You should be dead after you don't put down the weapon and instead RAISE IT towards the officer.

Thing that surprised me most (or maybe not, feeling a bit jaded at the moment) is how utterly unshocked the guys filming were. They were clearly surprised, because they expected him to only get tazed. But upon seeing someone's life likely ended, all they managed a "Daaammmmmnnn...giggle...They mugged that mofo" and some laughing. Something about that disturbed me.

Yeah, I can see doing it at home while watching the video, but doing it there was like, "Well, shit. I guess it's not that big of a deal considering it's not actually your life. But still, I expected some kind of reaction. I guess that's what you get for growin' up near Carl's Jr?"

I'm going to try to avoid getting in trouble here... but based on their "character" and the people seemingly involved, it's possible shootings are more common for them than they should be.
