The first in each series were dark, sci-fi/horror flicks. The second ones were straight up action.

Good call. That is definitely why I enjoy T1 over T2. I really like Alien, but have not seen the second one, so cannot comment on the differences.

KT

you really need to watch A2 and 3 if you have not seen them

A3 is more like A1 and IMO is just as good

Will do. Maybe I'll do a marathon.

KT

Holy shnikies! you haven't seen A2?

<----VERY disappointed :|

BAD KT, very BAD!

Yeah, I haven't seen either in a very long time. Would like to check them both out....waiting for BD. come on god damn it BDBDBD!!!!!

I first "saw" Aliens when I was...5, 6? brother and I were sneaking behind our pops when he was trying to watch it on HBO--we were not allowed. There was a hallway mirror across from the stairs that we could use to see the TV in the living room. Me being the excitable youngest one at the time, I couldn't contain my "awesome!" when the rover was bursting through that exterior area, with all the junk and such.

Yeah, add it to the list of big movies I've never seen (Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, etc..). I was a disgruntled/misguided kid that avoided watching any big blockbuster type movies, so I need to make my way through them now. Just saw Forrest Gump and T2 for the first time very recently, so I fail.

Yes. The Aliens collection is indeed in dire need of Blu-Ray chest bursting goodness.

Give me a quality transfer and I'll be in line for a pre-order.

I will be buying this.

My DVD of Alien looks pretty solid, but my Aliens DVD is kind of crappy. I really hope they can improve the audio in Aliens. The scene where Burke and Gorman come to see Ripley in her room to convince her to go to LV-426 has a ton of distortion :(

I think the UK or German T2 is supposed to be tits, no? Still waiting for the proper release over here.

I have T3 on HDDVD and it's not too shabby. Not great....but I find it worth a watch every now and again.

Holy crap, now I know what movies I need to rent. Thanks for the link!

No problem.

This is probably going to end up being my guide to what DVD movies I will replace with Blu-ray vs. sticking with the DVD version.

yeah, that thread is buried in there somewhere. There are 2 German versions, I think, or maybe it was a UK version re-released last summer that is 2 BD, tons of extras, and supposedly excellent transfer....

Terminator 2 is amazing.

The part from when John first encounters both terminators in the hallway, all the way to the end of the chase scene with the harley and the semi truck... quite possibly the best action sequence ever.

Plus, the way Arnold flip cocks that Winchester sawed-off is just awesome. :)

here's a start:

best BDs with multiple releases
Terminator 2
German (Studio Canal) -
UK (Optimum) - Better PQ, VC-1, DTS-MA 5.1, Extended cut, Region Free.
US - MPEG2, DD EX/DTS ES Audio (lossy), Theatrical cut

Oh, this might be the earlier UK release? I seem to remember a release that had theatrical and extended cut...or maybe it was simply a lot of discussion, or rather members bitching about no release offering both versions...

Agreed, but T2 does have the better special effects and is more of a pure action movie. Same kind of tradeoff as Alien versus Aliens.

Edit: Already been covered. :p

I agree.

T2 is still a badass movie, though.

Agreed. Its a great action movie, but "Arnold the Robot Dad" is just ridiculous. I didn't really see it when I first watched because I was distracted by awesomeness though.

Abyss Director's cut in nuts. When he's trying to get her to breath again he pounds her for like 15 solid minutes! That movie rocked my face off as well. They really don't make 'em like they used too.
