Same here, I live about 2 miles from Rosemont. I can't believe he got all the way down to the docks in this car without anyone noticing....

OMG when I read the title I was thinking it was an Enzo..."say it ain't so!!!"

I don't care much for the older F50...if its stolen its stolen....

Even when I test drove a brand new Saturn S series (on sale for $9,995) they took a PHOTOCOPY of my driver's license and insurance information before giving me the keys.

Thats just low. Real low.

The fact that you went to test drive a Saturn.
Yes, I like how he put the price in there, but it doesn't excuse it.

Stealing ferraris IS cool.

Ok I admit it, I came very close to buying a Saturn S series ... what happens now?

Banishment?

No, but 48hrs of intense psychotherapy to rid you of any future urge to even THINK of walking into a Saturn dealership!

Might even involve electric shock, needles, and handcuffs.

what the hell does everyone have against saturns. i think they're great little cars. i like the ion.

:camera: ?

I would think to test drive a 700k car, you would need a full criminal background check and have to provide a dna sampe.

Do you think this guy would have produced a real ID anyways? if they had it this planned out, they would have a fake ID to use, unless the salesman was in on it

The F-50 is an overrated car. Car and Driver got ahold of one and found that the claimed specs were above what the car could do.

Top speed: 194@redline, 197 if you went beyond (vs. 201 claimed)
Lateral Acceleration: 0.95G, 1.2G claimed.
The tires also blistered during testing, and it's acceleration never matched the 427 SB2 Corvette they had in the issue before it, that one did 0.96G and topped 212.

Edit:
The F40 is a more impressive car, that did 200 in an age where even the fast cars could only do 150.

Its always like that... i think only Porsche and BMW underrates their stats

well in many countries you wouldn't have to hide it. You have possession, you own it.

If the guy was a pro, he probably did have a limo waiting 🙂 for when he got his $250k pay off at the port after he drove it into a container designed for a ship within the hour heading to columbia or the like.

I don't know, GM underrated thier F-body specs quite a bit and people have been dynoing Dodge SRT-4 Neons and Ford Lightnings have been dynoing at considerably more power than spec'ed (245 FWHP on the Neon, and 425 RWHP on the Lightning for cars that make 215 and 390 at the crank)

Oh, and the F40 is largely agreed to be faster than the F50. Though the F50 is more livable.

The F50 is marginally faster... sometimes not at all.

Heh, alot of bawls maby, not planning.

IF it was stolen to be sold in the overseas black market. In Rush hour traffic. Put into a waiting trailer. He drove up in a limo. He was dressed.

I'd say it takes a bit more planning than you think. These guys aren't just car jackers. They have a plan and purpose for this car.

Because they are the WORST offenders of those @#%#$^% daytime running lamps (those fvckers are BRIGHT on a Saturn). And, they've had that damn pod in the middle of the dash since day one.

Now, the new sedan, is that the Ion? It looks a helluva lot better on the exterior than any previous Saturn.

Oh yeah...and it's GM! 😛

i have a saturn, no daytime lights, no pod, most think I am joking when I say it's a saturn.

Ron Jeremy had a funny quote about it...."I have a 9.75" c*#k, I drive a saturn, why, because it was given to me....you ask those guys like Tom Cruise, ...etc etc etc and that @()(@* Wilem Dafoe what they drive....that will tell you something."

Ouch, that would suck. I hope they find it. With the rarity of the car, it will be hard to keep it hidden/unnoticed.

It will probably end up in a massive garage owned by some sheik who doesn't care whether anybody sees it but him.

Viper GTS

Yeah, like you know a lot about Sheikhs.

Viper GTS is a mid-east historian and is the Australian ambassador to Quatar.

Anyway, I can't believe that they didn't make him pay a down payment. My friend's mom went to test drive a Dodge Viper and they wanted $25K before they'd let her in it.

Edit: Ok, the ViperGTS thing is just a joke. I don't want to come of as not PC and get yelled at by thereds since I don't really know any ambassadors.

All but the top speed could be down to Tyres, which if they blistered must have gone 'off'. But then maybe the lower circumference of the tyres could explain that also?

Ferrari don't make tyres anyhow, so I fail to see how that can be their problem.

People, this story is obvious as nothing else. The salesman was cooperating with the thief and shared the profit, I'm also pretty sure he got to that salesperson job for the sole purpose of stealing the car - this way he'd know which car to steal, when, and he could help the real thief. That's a well planned theft.

I was reading about where many sheikh's young boys have car collections like matchbox cars, only they are real exotics. Something that the average 'newborn' was worth $XXX million or something at birth.

I would never make a downpayment before driving a car first...this is typically done though in areas that really don't sell many of those types of cars.

Here in Palm Beach and Broward (Ft Lauderdale) and Dade (Miami) you can literally see 100's of exotics sitting on lots, I think Miami sells more exotics than anywhere else in the world with most going overseas.....

My friend was able to buy these types of cars, he had them since 13 (not an exotic, but his dad brought home an IROC and told him to go to their property and learn to drive)....

Sometimes he would get crap about even looking at the cars (he understood that until he was 18, a test drive would be out of the question without his dad there since he couldn't do a deal, even if he brought cash)....however a couple times he got offered to do a test drive (once he was a repeat customer, the other time a total new customer however he did pull in with his Ferrari 328).

Of course it's up to the dealership and how they perceive you....many think they will get all dressed up and put on their 'nice' watch and shoes and no one will turn them down. Most of the times the salesman can tell you are either now overdressed or simply do not match the dress style of his 'average' customer, and the average customer is the one buying cars 🙂
