BALDWIN BOROUGH, Pa. -- A Baldwin Borough man who put a giant illuminated cross outside his home is being told to take the structure down or face a penalty.

Carl Behr built the 24-foot cross and two other crosses on his property along Robbins Street.

"If you have a problem with that, I think you have a problem with the Lord," said Behr.

Behr said it's an act of faith, but one neighbor claims it's an act of revenge.

Normally, I'd back the home owner. He put the cross up on his property, but after reading the article, reading about his code violations, and looking at pictures of the cross, he's being a dick. Plain and simple.

F'ing religious fundi's...they're going to end up being the death of us all...

This has nothing to do with faith or religion. This is about one neighbor trying to be as much of an ass as possible over the neighbor's complaints about his code violations, like blocking neighboring drive ways with construction vehicles.

THen why didn't he have about 8 yards of rock delivered to his neighbors house in the middle of the night, instead of doing this on his own property?

I don't see anything in the article to indicate that he blocks her driveway ...

Fera claims he frequently violated zoning regulations by parking construction vehicles in front of her house.

She "claims" he is "violating zoning regulations", the question is, has he ever received a ticket for it? What was the "construction vehicle"? Did he just park his work truck in front of her house, or did he park a crane there? Sounds to me like she might be being a bitch too. We've got a neighbor that gets all uppity when you park in front of her townhouse, because it blocks her stupid dog's "view of the park", and after all, staring at a park is a dogs favorite activity.

Turn the other cheek? Love thy neighbor? lol

Seems we have yet another 'christian' who uses the religion for their own ends. In this case, a petty, bullshit end.

That pagan bitch sure had some nerve to expect him to abide by the same laws as everyone else in the neighborhood. She obviously hates Jesus.

Which laws are those?

His other idiosyncrasies/torts have been covered. I'm usually about liberty first but a cross like that lowers property values so it affects others. Maybe in BFE this would be cool. In Texas along i40 they got a huge cross but it's in the middle of nowhere. This is in the middle of a subdivision.

Light pollution? Being a dick? Putting up a huge illuminated cross falls into the same category as shining a spotlight into someone's bedroom to prevent them from sleeping. There are also laws about blasting stereos at night.

Light pollution? lol, someone better send the sun a ticket. Seems that her problem sleeping, if she has one, is that she doesn't like what her neighbor is doing, not that the light is keeping her up. Being a dick isn't against the law. Personally I don't really care one way or the other, but if he isn't breaking any laws, than it's his property so she shouldn't worry about it. I'm pretty sick of people in this country thinking everyone should be doing what they think is right. People need to mind their own fucking business.

I was referring to the zoning regulations mentioned in the article. Personally knowing 9 construction business owners and counting one of them as a neighbor, I can attest to both the size and number of vehicles used in that industry. All that does not belong on a residential street, and you'd have to be kidding yourself if you think it was of no inconvenience to the other residents of that neighborhood.

I've seen police write tickets and give warnings down in Florida for similar behavior, maybe this guy got a lame $40 fine and took it personally as some affront to his right to run a business?

Unless their Islamic fundi's, then we aren't allowed to stereotype.

You can stereotype islamic fundies all you want, it's when you do it to non-fundie muslims that makes you look like an asshat, which then embarrasses the non asshat Americans who know better.

whoa did you just grant me permission to shine 20 million candle power of love into your bedroom window? I am totally on the next flight to Texas.

Come on down, there's a great rib joint right around the corner. Regarding the light, it was sarcasm, but the picture doesn't look too bright, and I didn't read anything about her having problems sleeping because it's too bright, or shining in her window ...did you? She says ...

"I believe it's well overdue. The only cross I care about coming down is the one that's illuminated that shines in my house.

But in the picture it looks like there's a street light that would shine in her house too, is she complaining to the city to remove it too?

I know a bunch of contractors too, there's no mention in the article about what was parked where, except her complaining about him supposedly violating some "zoning regulations".

For someone who doesn't care one way or another, you sure are putting up a good fight for the dickhead.

Things might be different in Texas, but street lights in Canada shine down rather than sideways.

Just having fun on the other side. There's no doubt he is doing it to piss her off, still there's no law against being an asshole, but if he is in violation of an actual law, or regulation than he should take it down.

They shine down here too, but unless you house is thirty feet off the ground they are going to shine in your house. There's a street light about twenty feet from my second story bedroom, damn thing shines right in.

Hold up, she's a single mother who has a vindictive asshole across the street interfering with her xfering to and from, and sleeping within, her own damn house. She also seems to have a better grasp on the tenants of christianity than Mr. Behr who is hiding behind the cross to commit blatant acts of douchebaggery.

If she was a bitch, a sleep deprived one at that, she probably would have resorted to slashing tires, pouring sand in gas tanks, etc etc. by now, but there is no mention of vandalism in the story. Hmmmm.

The only thing I want to know is if she bothered to ask him to stop it first, or did she go straight to the cops. I'm guessing from the tone of both in the article, that she did and his response was anything but courteous and respectful.

Thanks for that joke about light pollution during the day John, gave me the good laugh I needed today. :)
