Solid album but there have been a lot better metal albums released this year so it dissapointed me.

such as?

The Sword. Who is opening for Metallica on this tour and is going to blow them off the stage.

Yep, I'm tempted to pay the $100 or whatever it is just to see The Sword. No desire to see Metallica again though.

KT

I was tempted too. I saw them locally here about 18+ months ago in a small dive bar. They will tour again on a small scale (just wrapped up with Clutch which isn't HORRIBLE small, but certainly a better avenue then seeing them with Metallica).

Nice, that would have been sweet to see them with Clutch. A buddy of mine has an extra ticket to Metallica, so I may just grab it off him, or I may just wait to see if The Sword tours on their own soon.

KT

I actually didn't go to that concert either 🙂 I've seen Clutch 100 times since 1991 and now in the bigger venues, it just isn't as much fun anymore. I'm all for small shows in small places by bands nobody has heard of yet.

Machine Head will also pwn faise. Will be worth the price of admission indeed.

We get Lamb of God instead of Machine Head.

KT
Decent, altho not a fan of Lamb.

Clutch is def fun band in a small venue, esp when their lead singer is rip roaring drunk with a bottle in his hand.

I saw them in a small venue ages ago, but I haven't seen them since. We're talking 15 years ago or so. The venue isn't even open anymore. I saw them at a larger show shortly after that, but that's it.

Would be nice to see them again.

I recently returned the new Metallica album, music was ok, but the sound was horrible...
And it seems i'm not the only one

Guitar hero version sound better

compare the samples

I'm in no way an audiofile, but I have 92bit mp3's that sound better...

I heard there is a GH rip torrent, gonna give it a try.
Hope they will release a "not so ground up" version...

You know, I was commenting to someone the other day that the CD sounded overly-compressed. Too funny to hear the Guitar Hero clips. I bought the CD, but I'll definitely have to find those versions. Stupid record companies.

name just about any metal band who has releases an album in 2008

ill go with In Flames

While im a huge fan of In Flames i wouldnt say the new album is better than Metallica. However the new Testament, Priest, and Motorhead albums are far superior. And if were talking bout newer bands..Amon Amarth keeps putting out amazing albums.

Motorhead's Motorizer > Death Magnetic? rofl. To each their own, I suppose. I thought that sht was weak as hell (not to mention a different genre). But then again I'm a fan of thrash metal. Haven't heard Priest or Testament's latest to comment.

Didn't like the album at all the first few times through but it grew on me a bit. Not bad, not amazing.

Much, much better band.

Edit: And even being a raving Judas Priest fanboy, I can admit their latest album Nostradamus is shit. Visions is the only good song.

Still a very, very good album though, beats the hell out of St. Anger and Re / Load. Make sure to "acquire" the Guitar Hero III rip, as the retail CD sounds like complete shit.
Kirk is timid on the guitar? Are you serious? rofl. If anything, D.Magnetic showcases Kirk's skills like they should have been before all this Reload/St.Anger crap.

Listen to Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets, then put in Death Magnetic and tell me that.

Forget (Re)Load and St. Anger, Metallica was kidnapped and bad musicians pretended to be them for the past 17 years, that's all.

Oh please.

"RUUUH RUH RUUUH RUHHHHHH RUHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"
*doublebass doublebass doublebass doublebass doublebass*

That's 99% of current metal, In Flames is no exception. That's less qualified to be called music than rap.

Much, much better band.

Never listened to them. Any recommendations on a song/album to start with?

KT

Album: Ashes of the Wake

The albums before Ashes of the Wake are good, but a bit different sound (much harsher vocals, etc) so it could depend on which style you prefer. The album after Ashes of the Wake (their latest, titled Sacrament) changed styles again, to more use of cleaner vocals and a more Pantera sound.

In all fairness, there are some pretty badass tracks on St. Anger. That damn snare though........

This is a joke.... right?

Love them or hate them, Metallica consistently puts on one of the best shows in rock/metal.

Saw them in Austin at Erwin Center some 10+ years ago, person got caught on fire, smoke coming from sound effect area, another falling from scaffold, all pretty good. Ended up with a guitar pick too. 😀

They're ok, certainly not the best show. NIN, Maiden, Anthrax, and a bunch of others I can't think of right now, do much better shows.

Well, you're comparing DM to 2 of their epic albums, obviously it will pale. But I don't think Kirk's guitars are "timid". Maybe slightly subdued compared to the other two. But it beats the sht out of guitars on Black to present. I agree with the sentiment that DM is a bridge from AJFA to Black. Welcome back Metallica.

SLIPKNOT. Not the best band, but good lord can they put on a show.

I also agree that Amon Amarth is amazing.

Throw in Dark Tranquillity.

I'm not sure you can really compare them to Metallica though. Totally different styles..

Although, if Metallica came out with something like This?(player on right hand side).

Or this?

Or hell, even this...

I think I would shit myself.
