We only have her words that he left her after winning the lottery. He could have left or was in the process of leaving, won, and now she wants her cut of the pie. It's happened before--I remember reading an article a while back where the guy was in the process of getting a divorce, was days away from signing the final papers, won the lottery, and had to give his ex 50% because he won before the divorce was legally finalized.

Talk about a dick move. If the guy wanted to run off with his winnings, fine, but at least leave his wife a little money so she can stay afloat for a while after he leaves.

Being as fat as she is...i would bet she floats just fine@!!!

Of course, he screwed himself. If he's in the US, or ever sets foot in the US again, he'll be arrested for not answering the arrest warrant that I'm sure his wife's divorce attorney will get placed against him.

Doesn't it have to be served to him?

So if they can't find him and serve him it won't work...?

Plus if it is a civil suit won't it be divorce papers not an arrest warrant?

As far as I know, failure to appear in court is usually only going to result in a warrant in criminal cases, not civil procedures. In a civil case, failure to answer or appear in court will just result in default judgment (like the pepsi case a while back?).

Jerk move, yes. Illegal? I don't know on what grounds, since he hasn't even been served yet.

I believe a wise man once said:
"If you win $600 you can just disappear, if you win 1.1million they will find you. Unless they think you are already dead."

Wow after reading all the comments I thought she was gonna be a land whale, but she really isn't that fat. I mean yeah, she's fat, but not as fat as everyone here was making it seem. I feel a little let down :(

AFA we know, as of right now, none. But here's what will happen.

1. Wife files for divorce citing blahblahblah and she's wants his money
2. Judge signs warrant for him to appear in court
3. He won't show, and is therefore automatically held in contempt of court and a warrant issued for his arrest
4. He's fucked.

Divorce is a civil matter. They dont issue arrest warrants if you dont show up. They simply issue a judgement not in your favor.

I am assuming the civil matter they refer to in the video was for bill collectors and the bank foreclosing on the house. The story was poorly done as they dont explain anything about the previous court case. The judge told her the bills ect would need to be settled by the divorce judge as they are both legally still married.

This guy is a fucking idiot though. He bolts for 1.1 million? Life is long, 1.1 million isnt that much money. Plus one day after she gets the divorce court to issue liens on his assets they will find him and collect what money he has left anyways.

Neither is the wife. The earnings were paid to his daughter from a previous marriage.

if he was the one that bought the ticket, it doesn't matter who the earnings were paid to. You can't fraudulently hide assets that would otherwise be marital assets by, lets say, funneling lottery winnings to a third party. In an divorce, she is presumably entitled to split assets with him, which includes the lottery winnings (certainly doesn't help his case that he disconnected phone/tv so that she wouldn't find out about the winnings). Of course, this all assumes she can find him and he hasn't blown it all on hookers and blow yet.

What's even funnier is that everyone seems to ignore that the husband wasn't exactly a matchstick either. If anything, he's probably even more overweight than the wife, I mean look at how much fat he has around his neck, it's disgusting.

$1.1m (or even a couple hundred thousand) in southeast Asia, India or most of the middle east will set you up quite comfortably for a very, very long time.

The fact that he leaves his wife after the lottery shows signs that there were marital issues beforehand and even if he didn't skip out on her after winning the lottery they would've split up fairly quickly afterward.

Except guess who would have likely ended up with all of the money...

So, he was one of 16 people that won $17M? After taxes what did he get? $500K, maybe? That's six months of hookers and blow down in Mexico...or if he returned to India (I'm assuming that's where he's from) that's a lot of Rupees for...whatever they do for fun there.

$500k can easily keep you happily comfortable for life in another country - you just gotta know where to live. And if you're only interest is drugs and diseased whores - well.. you'll die before you run out of money... or you'll die shortly thereafter. :)

So what - he can't come back to the U.S. - who's to say they weren't her illegally [the new report is out of Florida]... :)

What we have right here is probably the smartest man alive. Otherwise she gets half of the winnings. He should just run off to the carribean or central america and live the perfect life.
