Pretty sure that if you referenced any other ethnic group there you'd get a mod warning. Gypsy is considered a derogatory term for the Romani people.

This squatter thing blows my mind. Is there no law about trespassing in the UK? It looks like he could get an injunction and then, if they refuse to leave, they'd be in contempt of court and fined and imprisoned.

Are you a gypsy?

If he got into his own house with a gun and took care of business, could that be considered an act of self defense because technically there are home invaders on his property?

That would be assuming you have the right to self-defense in the UK.

For an average Joe - it'll be weeks, minimum.

these laws are ack bassward.....i would go apeshit if someone "moved" into my house if i went away for the weekend. Have I no rights for my belongings that were in the house, or are those considered "furnishings" and included? They have "Squatters Unions"?? They just look around for empty hosues and place people? damm....remind me never to live in UK

The wonders of socialism. All its done is create entitled assholes. Too lazy to work but want the world handed to them on a silver platter. The BS in France right now is also a good example of this.

Laws or no laws, I'd take a board with a nail in it and beat a few of them to death. There are plenty of homeless shelters around. You should have no right to invade another's property like that.

italians living in London?

with all of the "why doesn't this guy shoot them?" and the "Obama" comments, I'm starting to realize why they typical crazy people on her are actually so crazy--you guys just don't read. Or you simply consider 30% of the job good enough, just fill in the rest with assumptions and personal bias. :D

doesn't matter where they are. I'm sure the dnc got them ballots one way or another.

That seems really quick for squatters to do their thing...are they just going around knocking on peoples' doors and when nobody comes breaking in?

This quote pissed me off: ‘None of us have any money or jobs. I don’t feel guilty about being here because no one else had been here for at least two years, the neighbours told us.'

First of all how are they affording to go to school if they don't have any money or jobs. Second of all why the hell did they go to London without money. I wonder if the owner of the house can call UK's version of the INS and have them deported.

Unfortunately that seems to be hearsay, as the residents claim it was open. This is just messed up. There's no way this should be even remotely possible.

so that automatically makes it ok to steal his stuff. If it were in America they would have however long it took me to get another gun and call my friends. if they weren't out when I got back then look like I have a lot of cleaning to do.

i'm noticing an uncanny absence of the "Europe is great, Austrailia and New Zealand is great... American laws fucking suck" group from this thread. Where are the Europe is great defenders defending this fucked up law.

Step 1: Go to English toy store
Step 2: Buy Hula hoop
Step 3: Take Hula hoop home
Step 4: Tell squatters that you will give them the house outright if you can't throw the Hula hoop over the chimney
Step 5: Wait for squatters to come outside to witness feat
Step 6: Run inside house
Step 7: Lock doors
Step 8: Laugh at stupid squatters through the mail slot

Simpsons Did it.

If this happened in the U.S.

Step 1: Get back in the car.
Step 2: Grab handgun and spare mags from the glove box
Step 3: Throw patio furniture through house window
Step 4: "Point and click"
Step 5: Reload as needed while repeating step 4

Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

I still can't wrap my head around the sheer absurdity of this. Why, for the love of sweet fuck, is this legal? These homeless, jobless shitheads go around helping themselves to the property of others because they're unemployed? Fuck them.

This makes me extraordinarily angry. If I were that guy, I'd grab a baseball bat and beat the living fuck out of each and every one of them. Going to prison would be 100% worth it.

Hah wtf. I'm trying to think of it in terms of my last vacation and the thought of coming home to find out that the locks have been changed and some homeless people have taken up residence is just... fucked up? Actually no, the fucked up part is that it would be a civil issue and the cops couldn't kick them out.

Just read the article, and all I can say is 'wtf!?'. Screw the courts, I'd go round up some buddies, kick in the door and drag them out into the street.

then have a buddy change the locks and squat the place while you're in prison.

it'll probably be faster too.

It doesn't seem like it should be this difficult to kill all of them.
All you need to do is seal the exhaust vent from the furnace. The house will fill with carbon monoxide and kill everyone in the house.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=6376209&page=1
Parker and Caroline Lofgren and their children were delighted to win a fundraising auction at their kids' school for a vacation in a $9 million Aspen, Colo., mansion.

The newly built 3,250-square-foot house had three bedrooms, three full and two half bathrooms and private river access.

It also had a faulty pipe in the heating and snow melt system, which leaked carbon monoxide and killed the family while they slept, according to investigators.
