EDIT: thank you, it seems like I was correct.

Ok, but is it ok to wish bad things on animal rights activists anyway? :p How about we throw them in a cage for a few weeks with lawyers, 49 year old SUV drivers, and no food?

Someone hit this bitch with a Ford F-350 please.

Here's on time I'm agree with you.... but make it a F-450.

There is no word on what became of the animal's body, but
local animal rights activists are filing to take possession
of the bear's remains, claiming it was an immoral act of
killing, and Ryan should not be allowed to make a bearskin
rug out of it. [/Q[

If they like bears so much, they should go live with them.

Here is another PRWeb "press release".
If that is the only source, the story is almost certainly not true.

Lol ... yea, probably a hoax. I have a hrad time believing that an 800lb bear got owned by a frying pan.
A cast iron frying pan though. I pictured the kid hitting the bear with the edge, which would probably do enough to stun it for a second. But it does seem unlikely that the bear wouldn't have taken the kid's face off with a good paw swipe before he ever got the chance to Earthbound his way out of it.

"I picked up the frying pan and shouted, bring it on, bring
it on!"
Ryan jumped over the counter and started swinging
the frying pan. The animal, estimated at six feet tall on
all fours and over eight hundred pounds, got back on all
fours and started to charge the young man. When the bear
was about 1 foot away from him, Ryan swung the cast iron
frying pan and hit the bear on the right side of its head.
"The bear appeared to be dazed, so I just kept pounding
him with the frying pan."
I call bs :p

even getting hit with the flat side of a 15lb cast iron frying pan is gonna rattle his brain around and dase him,

I don't know if it is true, but I have heard that sometimes a bullet will not even penetrate the skull of a Kodiak. So a frying pan? Pfft... if this story were true (which it isn't) this bear would probably start laughing its arse off at the guy.

Once the bear was done with the salmon, it would have destroyed the guy's house looking for more food. It *probably* wouldn't have killed the guy, but there were no guarantees. I wouldn't have tried to kill the bear without a gun... I would have tried to get out of the house, but we don't know if the guy had an alternate route of escape. He may have been blocked in by the maurading bear.

If it was the bear or me, I would kill the bear in a heart beat, whether the bear is attacking me in my own home or out in the wild. I am the top carnivore on the food chain.

I can almost garauntee this story is made up.

What the hell kind of idiot hits an 800 pound bear on the head with a wooden spoon... yeah, that will REALLY cause some damage...

And then he started yelling "Bring it on" to this bear... and as the bear was charging, he hit him on the head with a pan a foot away, and the bear stopped, in mid charge mind you, and sat there to take another 4-5 minutes worth of blows.

Yeah, anybody want to get a pool going? 40:1 odds this story is fake.

There was that case a few years back where some boy scouts stoned a smallish black bear to death. Think it was in Yosemite.

But then grizzly >> black bear

And Roger ... edit your damn post :/

yeah, was it necessary to intimidate the bear? I mean, just throw the fish in the opposite direction.

I wonder what brand of frying pan it was?

Has this guy given any thoughts to the endorsements he could have?

Humm, OJ Simpson is approaching me with knife, should I,
a) try to run away.
b) or, sucker-punch him or b|tch slap him as hard as I could so he will cry like a punk and leave

No harm, what about the $400 dollars in damage?!?!?!?
Hey that bear engaged in B&E and if I'm not mistaken you can legally kill someone breaking into your home for protection.

you are trialing the bear as a human being?
so if my dog hump your cat can you charge him for rape?
