So I want to buy a new car. I have decided on getting a new mustang GT. I love my 92 5.0 but decided I want something new and nicer.

I went looking around at dealerships and found a 03 Gt with 12,000 miles that I liked. It was mint besides one very minor scratch (VERY MINOR). I got the dealer talked down to 17,500 on it. Which I thought was a fairly good deal on the car.

Well we went to talk about financing with him. HE KNEW I WAS 19, AND WAS THE ONE WANTING THE CAR! Well he said that chances of me getting it by myself would be slim, so my parents, both mom and dad cosigned for me. It was in my name but they where cosigning. Well the credit approval was denied! But the deal said that my dad could put it solely in HIS name, not doing me any good building auto credit, I have some credit, which is good, but no auto credit yet.

Well the more we investigated it we found out the reason the dealership denied me was because they, the dealership hardly EVER gives a 19 year old a GT, because statistically they get returned due to non payment, This is no matter the down payment, no matter how many cosigners and no matter the cosigners auto credit. Well I got in touch with Ford Motor credit and they told me the same thing. Well tell me does the friggin car have a sticker on the window that says must be 21+ to purchase no matter the situation.

So basically there is no way for me to get the car I want other than someone else putting it in their name, is what I have been told. Someone putting it in their name does me no good auto credit wise.

Basically I was hoping someone could help me with this situation. I make enough to pay the payments/insurance (Insurances for me on my own policy on this car is $100-$125 a month). The car payments would be around $300 a month aprox. Depending on interest rate.... I gross around $1,600 a month not counting overtime, which can be like 10-25 hours a month....

Thanks for your help,
Josh

Yeah, I'll be right over to put a 03 GT in my name and let you drive it. Would that help? :p

Find a different financor dummy. Go to your bank, you rparnets bank, whatever. You dont HAVE to finance from the dealer....

Speaking from a position of ignorance, could you transfer the debt to your name at age 21 and have someone else sign up for now?

No :p, Becuase I want this to establish credit in my name. My father already told me he would put it in his name for me, but taht defeats 1/2 the purpose of doing it the way I wanted to.

Yes, I could. BUT They said if we do that chances of me being able to do that then would be slim, because I would not have auto credit then..... They are just saying they dont want me to have this car no matter the situation.

Find another dealer who WILL sell to you.

When you buy your new car go visit the delaer who wouldn't sell to you and inform them of their lost money.

Well its not just the dealer, its ford motor credit.....

I tried banks, banks will not give me an auto loan even with a co-signer, my insurance agency will give me $10,000 so if i saved up the rest, would only need 3-4k i could do that.

Somewhere, there is a lender who will lend to you.

OTOH, you have to realize that you're in a demographic that's very risky for lenders. And they're protecting their interests, too.

I bought a car when I was 16. Totally 100% in my dad's name, but I made the payments. Now I'm 22, the car is still in his name and I don't really care, as I have excellent credit (buying my first home and all)

don't worry about it.

Exactly. This was the reason that I joined a credit union back when I was working full-time. They're usually pretty good about lending you money at decent interest rates.

WTF do you have against him wanting a mustang? I had 2 Mustang GT's between the ages of 17 and 22. If you can afford to pay it, which he already pointed out if you bothered reading, who the hell cares?

He needs it because they are fun as hell to drive. Maybe you don't understand it in your pansy ass Kia, but the rest of us like to have some push back when we nail the throttle.

My son is buying a car. It will be titled in my name, but the auto loan will list him as primary and I will co-sign.
Try going to a credit union if you or your parents are eligible. Usually you can get very good rates on auto loans.

PS The title can be latered transfered to my son's name at a very small charge, since it is within the family. But be careful when you transfer car over, as your insurance rate might be affected.

Have you tried online financing? There might be one out there that isn't so strident.

I have some credit, which is good, but no auto credit yet.

Okay, I guess I missed the memo on this. Is there auto credit which is different from regular credit and what's the difference?

What are you asking?

Go lending institutions and see if you can pull a loan.
Otherwise you're screwed kid.

he does not NEED it at all. He wants it.

But i agree with nick. why spend that much money at 19? personally i would rather get a decent car and go to college. that way you can get a good job and then afford to buy the car plus you will have better credit by then.

at 19 having "push back when we nail the throttle" is the reason he cant get the loan. Most 19 year olds are not responsible enough to have such a car.

I love it when people automatically drive KIAs just because they posted something they didn't like about someone's car. :D

Yeah, he doesn't seem to understand credit very well... he's pissed that Ford won't give him a loan because they don't give loans to 19-year-olds buying Mustangs, but then he can't get a loan at all from his bank...

Try a credit union, like others have suggested.
