Thanks 🙂

when you get wrongly put away for a long time and then released do you get anything from the government? like lots of money? can you sue?

i mean what do they say. sorry we wasted 48 years of your life for doing nothing wrong?

He will probably get 10-20 million dollars if past precident applies in Canadian cases.

Deserves every penny too IMO.

Dunno how canadian law is compared to the united states. But he was aquited, his lawyers also asked the judges to declare him innocent, which they did not do. In the US if someone is aquited, they never see a dime, only if after such a long time they are found innocent. To my knowledge no murder trial in the US lasted anywhere near that long.

Nope, complete and total mental block. It's as if the word never existed. I'm not trying to argue with you guys, maybe I inhaled something last night. I dunno.

6> 5

Six is greater THAN five.

I used to be a supporter of the death penalty, because I think those who kill deserve to die. But cases like this (and many others) are why I don't support it anymore.

We need a system like in minority report

...oh wait.

Yup, the Average person makes < $2million in a Lifetime in their Employment. Some can probably double that with Investments, but most don't.

How is that justice? They attempted to rob an older man who defended himself with a knife. He killed one of his attackers and ended up going to jail for murder. It's good that this Donald Johnson guy didn't do the time for the murder (since he didn't kill his accomplice), but why did they end up convicting the victim? Sounds like self defense to me.

similar case here in the UK

a old farmer, Tony martin found two scallies burgling his farm, bleak house in norfolk yet again, he had called police on previous occasion but they failed to do much about it.

well the next time they decided to go rob the old man, he shot one of them in the back with a shot gun, the other got away. the guy he killed, fred barras was only 16.

the other guy Brendan Fearon was wounded and i think he tried to sue or claim disability or something like that but was then snapped riding a bicycle and other energetic stuffs so yeah he got caught out again...once a crook always a crook.

the old man, tony, got life i think.

all he was doing was protecting his property because the police, the people he funds with his tax money, wouldnt.

Holy shit

did any of you read the fucking article?

he only served 10 years, not 46

it's in the second paragraph

"and he was paroled 10 years later"

There's also Rubin Hurricane Carter (about whom Bob Dylan wrote a song).

And a movie, as well. It makes you think. That's for sure. I wonder how many people have been put away, who were really innocent, or how many have been put to death, simply because of ill gotten testimony?

And it's sad, but even today, I believe a black man could be put away, if that worked to the convenience of a couple hair triggered cops, and a small podunk town prosecutor and judge.

10 years is still a long ass time to spend behind bars because of something you didn't do.

What other evidence did they have against him when he was originally convicted? Surely, something more than the coroner's estimated time of death...

But yes, I do feel he deserves a lot of money for that long... if I were him I would not settle for anything less then $20M

You sir, = teh fail. Even after the English lesson above 😕

I was wondering that myself ...

I still hope he gets some money out of it. Even 10 years would be tough in jail - plus being labeled as a child murder for the next 36 years.
