I did try to talk to him. I was ignored. I always get aisle seats, and often times I need to stay awake (or have someone wake me up) as the drink cart rolls by, else I get my knee or ankle hit, sometimes pretty hard too.

And yes, it's a service...but this is why I bring up disabled people. This isn't something that I'm out of shape and overweight, this is something I cannot control. Airlines are forced to accommodate disabled people (everyone is, really) - so why aren't they forced to accommodate the tall people too? Why should someone who is disabled get the red carpet rolled out for them while someone else who by no doing of their own be forced to pay more? If you're OK with me being forced to pay more - fine. Let's have the airlines fit 2-3 more rows in. And at the time of booking they can ask your height. If you're over 5'5", you're force to pay $100 more. That sound OK? That's what you advocated.

If the fee is plainly stated, I'd have the option of buying the ticket or not. Maybe going to a different airline, or paying for a better fare. You're just bitter because your height is an outlier against the averages the airlines plan for. You're taking up more space, why wouldn't you pay more? Why should a 70lb 6 year old kid have to pay the same ticket price as you. They can't control how small they are. I can see why you hate the current system, but your argument doesn't work to make the airlines accommodate you for the same base fare.

Good luck ever getting height considered on a similar level as a disability.

I'd be fine with paying more if I get the additional space that comes with the extra cost. I think airlines should take into account base weight as well. Not just weight of the person, but the total weight they bring on the plane including luggage and everything. Maybe have a base fare of averages with a window if discrepancy, then when you board, you and all your luggage is added up and you pay a fuel surcharge.

It would be great if I could pay by the inches in additional leg and elbow room if I wanted it.

I don't recline for the leg room, I recline because it helps me sleep better

If you're in front of me and recline, good luck trying to sleep as I will bump your seat incessantly with my knees until you get the fucking clue to move your seat back up. I don't mind spending a couple hours knocking around the tray table in front of me or adjusting things so that your seat is moving/impacted every few seconds.

I mean, you could just politely ask me not to recline because it's so uncomfortable for you. I hope your username is ironic.

Why do people get mad about using a feature of the seat?
It's like 5° or 3". Get over it.
The person in front of her probably had theirs reclined too.

Seats on planes shouldn't recline. Someone puts their seat back, the top of their head is like a foot from my face. If I can tell what kind of shampoo you do (or don't) use, you're too close.

They should just reduce the number of rows by 1/3 and increase the pricing of each seat by 50%. Everybody will get 50% extra space.

Apparently the star from Hanging with Mr. Cooper witnessed what happened.

Here's an update:

https://www.yahoo.com/travel/recline-wars-continue-southwest-passenger-021757497.html

On Sunday, a female passenger aboard a Southwest Airlines flight claimed a man tried to choke her because she’d reclined her seat, according to witnesses. The reported altercation forced the San Francisco-bound plane’s captain to turn around and make an emergency landing back at Los Angeles International Airport.

Comedian Mark Curry, star of the 1990s sitcom Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper and a Bay Area radio personality, witnessed the incident. He described the commotion to NBC. “I thought it was a terrorist, so I jumped up. I didn’t know what to do. A guy got into it with a lady and choked her or something,“ Curry said. “They wanted me to put restraints on the guy. They asked me if I would help. I said, ‘At 30,000 feet, yes! I’ll beat anybody down.’ It was an incredible situation.”

Another witness also reported that when the woman tried to recline her seat, the man sitting behind her “started choking her. She shouted for help and the crew came to see what happened. The man stayed very calm during the whole situation.” The witness also says that afterward the woman moved to another seat and the cops met the plane back at LAX after it returned.

This is just a warning, but please make more careful posting choices, as not everyone, even in OT, "gets" the Chappelle reference.

To me, reclining seats is an unspoken rule: Unless you're on an international flight that is overnight or 8+ hours, it shouldn't be used. It's too dick to the person behind you for a standard domestic flight.

Just my take on it. Of course, your average person is too much of an asshole to care about not being an asshole to others. Hence why we cut everyone off while driving, etc...

Also, I'm average height - but I MUST give sympathy to people that are tall and it hurts their legs. That is INCREDIBLY fucked up to say that tall people should have to pay more. We don't make fat people pay more - and guess what? FAT (unlike height) is a CHOICE. You can control how much lard you stuff down your throat. You can't control how tall you grow. Anything that is NOT able to be controlled should NOT have to pay extra just to have a REASONABLE amount of comfort. And I would say not having bloody or irritated knee caps by the end of each flight isn't reasonable.

Quit defending shit american airliners that want to screw you more and more out of paying more for a god damn flight. I already bang my fucking head everytime I have to take a piss on-board because they keep making the bathroom smaller and smaller as well.

I've traveled all around the world, and America seems to be the only one that wants to squeeze us more and more. I was on a bullet train going around Japan, and even the cheapest seats had TONS of legroom for me to prop my feet up.

Yup this, sleep or at least be comfortable. Anything over 3 hours and I'm doing it.

Flying sucks in general, so I only do it once a year if I can help it.
