1. Don't know why he wasn't arrested and made an example of. He should never be allowed to fly again.

2. Eventually the airlines should get the blame for cramping people into such small spaces.

A Southwest Airlines flight turned around and made an emergency landing in Los Angeles late Sunday after a woman aboard the plane allegedly claimed a man tried to choke her because of a reclined seat back, according to the airline and witnesses.

Southwest would not confirm that a choking incident was involved but said "flight #2010 from LAX to San Francisco International airport returned to Los Angeles to allow police access to the cabin because of a rapidly escalating situation involving passengers who were not traveling together."

Witnesses said the woman claimed the man sitting behind her tried to choke her because she reclined her seat.

"Evidently we've got two passengers who are in a physical altercation so we need to get turned around and get back to LAX," the pilot of the plane told Air Traffic Control before landing safely in Los Angeles.

FBI spokeswoman, Laura Eimiller, said that a passenger was detained for questioning after the plane returned to Los Angeles, but no arrests were made. The remaining 136 passengers switched planes and would arrive in San Francisco about five hours late, according to Southwest.

wtf turn the plane around because of two idiots fighting? simple fix, make the passengers switch seats and keep it moving. a 5 hour delay because of this nonsense would piss me the hell off.

Dumbfucks. I'd be pissed at both of these idiots for delaying my travel.

If the seats go back, don't be offended when someone reclines one. Fuck off and deal with it.

the answer is yes

the man was wayne brady

he wasn't arrested because white people love wayne brady

This is just a warning, but please make more careful posting choices, as not everyone, even in OT, "gets" the Chappelle reference.

Sounds like no one else witnessed it. He probably grabbed her on a shirt collar (which would still be assault admittedly) and she exaggerated it as strangulation.

You can't arrest a man who improvises a funny little song to explain why he's choking some bitch out. You have to respect that sort of talent.

Why do people get mad about using a feature of the seat?
It's like 5° or 3". Get over it.
The person in front of her probably had theirs reclined too.

Flew to Orlando last week for work. On the flight down there, I was going to recline my seat back, I turned around to see that it would have seriously crunched the person behind me so I ended up not reclining. The person beside me looked at me and I told them basically the same thing. Guy says, "Fuck 'em...you're a tall guy (I'm 6' 4") and besides they wouldn't do the same for you." and he proceeds to recline his seat back without regard.

I've been the recipient of unexpected reclines and that's some karma I'm not going to pass along to someone else. Also, the reclining doesn't really give you any extra leg room either...at least nothing that's discernable. I wish all airlines would just get rid of those fucking reclining seats and be done with it. You want reclining, pay business class or first class.

F U for having the common decency to assess the situation first instead of reclining into someone else's lap.

I can see that happening. I wonder what these two folks lead up was to the incident.

The turn around of the plane makes no sense.

I'm 6'4" tall. Whether a seat is reclined or not on some planes is the difference between "I can fit here, albeit not comfortably" and "omfg, the seatback is crushing my knees." I had an army guy recline on me a few years back. I just tried to brace the seat so he couldn't recline until another person in uniform hinted that he should stop - he was literally crushing my knees.

Unless they increase the amount of leg room on these planes, the recline function of the seats should be disabled. Fuck every last person who reclines.

Yea with the way the seats are pushed now I am not sure why the option to recline is still around. Seems it creates more headaches than its worth.

Could save money and weight by making the chairs fixed. Leave the option for 1st/business class.

I don't recline for the leg room, I recline because it helps me sleep better

Yeah, fuck people who are disabled - it's not my fault they can't walk.

Or, how about we realize that it's REALLY shitty to force people to pay more for the way they are - certainly when it's nothing that they can control. I can no more will myself to be short than a paraplegic can will themselves to walk.

It's shitty on the part of the airlines to pack people so closely together. It's even shittier on the part of passengers to not realize this and behave like civilized human fucking beings. You want to recline? Go buy a first class seat.

I'd prefer we instead remove a few rows of seats, pack less people on each plane and make it a more comfortable experience for all involved. I would have to pay an extra $100 per direction to fly from Seattle to the east coast - if I have to connect, that's 2 flights each way that I need to upgrade - likely a 757 or A320 and then some smaller regional jet; until recently, those regional jets offered no ability to get more leg room - some still don't. That's $200 roundtrip + taxes just to deal with inconsiderate assholes. Often times, depending when you book, there aren't any seats LEFT with extra leg room, either - they're taken up by people who already paid (and are shorter than me) or by people with status on that airline who couldn't get first class.

How about this: we pass laws saying that exit row and extra leg room may only be assigned at the gate, and shall be given out in order of need - people who are taller get first pick of those seats; if someone cannot fit into a normal coach row and there are no remaining seats with extra leg room, they get bumped to first class for free, or put on the next possible flight. That might make airlines change how they lay out airplanes....

It isn't anyone else's fault you decided to buy a plane ticket? Flying isn't a right, it is a produce/service that you purchased. Sorry, I just wanted to be an ass because of your your other response saying you braced your foot to prevent the guy in front of you from reclining instead of talking to him.

I don't disagree the seats suck, which is why I always get the aisle seats, so I can push my legs out into the aisle. I just wish it was easier for me to buy 2 seats on a plane so I can have more space. It takes way too much work to go through that overweight passenger shit, especially when I'm only 160lbs and just a dick who wants more space. Domestic airlines really need to take a page from the books of the asian international flights. The ones that have multiple levels of seats like an economy plus, not just economy, 3x the price business, and 4x the price first class.

I did try to talk to him. I was ignored. I always get aisle seats, and often times I need to stay awake (or have someone wake me up) as the drink cart rolls by, else I get my knee or ankle hit, sometimes pretty hard too.

And yes, it's a service...but this is why I bring up disabled people. This isn't something that I'm out of shape and overweight, this is something I cannot control. Airlines are forced to accommodate disabled people (everyone is, really) - so why aren't they forced to accommodate the tall people too? Why should someone who is disabled get the red carpet rolled out for them while someone else who by no doing of their own be forced to pay more? If you're OK with me being forced to pay more - fine. Let's have the airlines fit 2-3 more rows in. And at the time of booking they can ask your height. If you're over 5'5", you're force to pay $100 more. That sound OK? That's what you advocated.
