Man burned while siphoning gas with leaf blower

Ha I thought the story was about them getting gas into a leaf blower or out of one, not using IT the leaf blower as the suction to remove gas from a car.

How can you even use a leaf blower for this? The article is so spartan as to be almost worthless. Did they go to lowes and stock up on tubes and adapters so that the leaf blower would suck the fuel? Were they then going to spray the fuel out the front? This is very vague.

The leaf blower has to suck air from somewhere, so they probably stuck a hose to the air intake.

How can someone be that dumb to run gasoline through an electric motor?

Those guys deserve a Darwin award for sure.

Who said anything about an electric motor? Most of the leaf blowers used around here are 2 cycle gas powered.

I was thinking of the gas going either through or next to an electric motor and the sparks from the motor set the gas on fire.

But you are correct, a lot of people use gas blowers.

Investigators said Williamson found the gas lid open and became concerned the vehicle had been tampered with, and so he was trying to check the gas tank for sugar.
He was trying to avoid damage and now the whole car is burnt to a crisp.

ing!

It's not that dumb. Only one specific type of electric motor creates sparks - brushed DC motors. They must have assumed it was a different type of motor.
3 phase motors do not spark
single phase shaded pole motors do not spark
single phase capacitor-run motors do not spark
brushless DC motors do not spark

The only motors in your house that will have brushed DC in them are extremely high torque motors. Those are the ones found in things like drills and blenders. Fans and weed whackers typically use shaded pole motors. My air compressor has a capacitor start motor. The hybrid car in your driveway uses a brushless DC motor.

lol I saw something similar on 1000 ways to die. They used vacuum cleaner to suck the gas out LOL.

Zero sympathy for these people. First of all they are stealing, second of all they are stupid.
