Man arrested for wearing T-shirt

They may not have been saying anything, but they were creating enough of a disturbance to one employee, who called security.

My question is what the hell is wrong with this employee? Got offended by some people wearing t-shirts that they needed to call security?

It was rather pathetic of the guards to ask them to leave based on those shirts, but I wonder what the specific complaint of the store clerk was that pointed them out?

Well if you noticed I never said anything about the legality of the Malls action as I'm not a lawyer nor am I familiar with the laws of Albany or New York.

That mall isn't too far away and it's MUCH bigger than the mall close to us. We go there about once or twice a month.
For people like us they generally leave us alone, but I've seen the security there be far less than nice to anyone they decide they don't like. I can say from first hand observation of other situations there that most likely the security was their usual insensitive selves and were no doubt pretty impolite to the guy. I'm sure the guy was no picnic either but considering how rude the mall security is they tend to put people on the offensive.
It is private property but Pyramid needs to remember that their property only stays open because of their customers.
They really need to send their guards to sensitivity training. Instead of saying take it off or leave, they would of done a lot better with an explanation to the man.

I'm not defending the actions of the mall (even though its only 15 mins. from me), but,
the mall is private property. It is not owned by the government. If the owners ask someone to leave, they must.

Lets put it in another perspective. If someone was on your lawn wearing clothing offensive to you and they refused to leave your property after you asked them to, wouldn't you call the cops.

Granted, this seems like a really stupid move by the mall owners but illegal, I don't think so.

Not that is unless you liberals think that mall owners somehow forefeit their rights to allow who they want on their premises.

Again, on the face of it, I think what the mall did was stupid. But I don't think it was illegal.

Frankly, it's sad seeing the reaction on this message board, I don't feel any which way towards the war issue, but people have the right to express themselves in this country, and idly standing by and accepting bullsh!t like this is one of the saddest things I could possibly witness.

Should we all wear neutral grey clothing whenever we go out into public anymore? I mean, we can't possibly offend or disturb any poor weak soul. I say we should make grey clothing mandatory for everyone. No one can be offended by that.

I think that if some people went and had a shirts made reading "Inspections Don't Work" and "Bomb Iraq Now" and proceeded to put them on and walk around the mall the same would have happened. However, people would be pretty quick to point out how said shirt could cause a disturbance. Frankly I think the mall did the right thing. Better to remove the potential than risk a large disturbance and possible damage. As a side note, I heard the man who was arrested on the radio this morning and he seemed more upset that he couldn't eat the sub he had just bought when the police cuffed him. I had to chuckle at that...🙂

Since you live in that city do you actually know what the laws are regarding the right of the owners of the Mall to arbitrarily ask a customer to leave?

SO you have a right to walk into my house or a school and start giving a speach on your beliefs? Not at all. I find the reactions of the mall security to be sad, but think about the people that normally work rent-a-cop jobs. The beef I had is that they refused to leave after they were asked. The fact they got arrested is their own fault. This has nothing to do with the government. This is two private parties being pig headed...

Almost every commercial store in my area has a sign that says "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone", most do so because it allows them to remove shoplifters and trouble makers.

I seem to remember that there was a similar Supreme Court case. I don't think this was illegal. A mall is private property.
