Making the change

Getting my speed on today watching the F1 Championship from Sao Paulo.
I noticed the booms that extend over the pit area for service reminded me of the new service booms for big rig rest areas. Then get a look at their command centers, talk about technology in action. Telemetry, anyone?
F1 combines all things cool, fast cars, gearhead stuff, technology ++, and then there are the Cover Girl / Models they use.
Where the heck is NASCAR with that, I ask you? NOWHERE, mon frer!

Here's the problem with F1 - the FIA is so much in Ferrari's camp that they will do almost anything to hand the championship to Massa. The politics in F1 (Ferrari threatening to leave if the new standardized engine rule is enforced, Mosley's money grabs and scandals, tracks and races being dropped for weak reasons) make it a farce.

The cars are faster and the road courses are more interesting, but the racing is better in NASCAR.

Still, my favorite race series is the Aussie V8 supercar races. You get right turns, and you get real competition. The various touring car championships around the world are usually pretty good fun to watch.

NASCAR=Racing, much more emphasis on the driver
F1=guys driving cars, much more emphasis on the car

Look at how often people fight for position in an F1 race vs. a NASCAR race.

Wow, what a race, didn't think Hamilton was going to be able to pass Glock in time, but he did, woohoo. I dreaded thinking how Hamilton would have reacted if he had lost 2 championships in a row on the last race of the year.

Making money up until the economy crashed this year.

NASCAR will be a whole lot humbler next year.

No kidding!
That guy actually gave way so Hamilton could advance and win the Championship.
You would see the guy drive him into the wall in NASCAR.

Yeah, I'm starting to get the bias towards Ferrari.
Aussie racibg is always cool. I really like the boat racing where they dig out the track. That's just crazy!

very true, which is ironic because in nascar you are only driving in a circle while F1 you actually have nice circuits that probably take more skill to drive. Nascar is a whole lot better at publicizing it's drivers which creates long lasting fans.

The difference in grip between dry and wet weather tires on a damp track is so much that I guess it might have looked like Glock let Hamilton go by. Glock took a gamble and tried to stay out in the rain on his dry tires, when everybody else pitted for wets. It made for McLaren crapping their pants for the last 5 minutes of the race, but Hamilton finally caught him and blew by.

The championship was decided in the last half of the last lap of the season, and after the winner of the race had crossed the finish line. It doesn't get much closer than that, in any form of motorsports.

And there are big rule changes in store for next year, which theoretically should reduce aero grip and increase mechanical grip, which in turn should make for more passing on-track. I hope so anyway.

oh, and the Japanese city circuits are the best ones to watch. Only problem is they put weights in cars that are faster during the qualifying run, just to artificially make the race closer.

F1 is all much more exciting. There aren't a lot of overtakes. it's all pit and fuel strategy. Plus there's basicaly zero parity in the series. The bottom teams might as well just run around in honda civics.

no he didnt let him through so hamilton could win

glock stayed out on slicks, which caught him out in the end

Ahhh, didn't catch all that.
<Been in and out of the room all day, doing chores now that the rain let up.

what does it mean for a team to win the constructors or drivers title?

im guessing more sponsorship, maybe a stack of cash from the FIA

but is that it? do they get new components or access to facilities that other teams dont?
