Majors

Alright, I was wondeirng what everyone majored in in college and what their current jobs are? I am currently in college and i cant seem to decide on a major, i keep switching and I was just wondering what eveyrone else has done in the past.

At the moment i am a Biz major, but i am currently doing some Macroeconomics and let me tell you..its not fun...

dual majored in English Lit and Sociology.

now I work in IT as a data center engineer.

I'm Bio major with Chem and CHinese minor.

The plan right now is to go to med school.

I hear from a lot of people that a general business degree is not very usefull without lots of real world experience to back it up. I think it would be more useful to major in something more specific like marketing etc. Just what I hear though.

I'm in natural resource management with land surveying, eventually going for an engineering degree. I was in comp sci but couldn't handle being indoors all the time, so I switched and love what I'm doing now.

Good luck with med school my brother just got in..what a pain that was for him.

Yeah well i eventually have to pick a focus, but thats not till next year till we get to pick.

Eh - I gave up on searching for a certain major - I jsut can't make my mind up. I'm going to finish my information Technologies degree and just go from there. For many places - just getting the degree is proof that you are willing to work hard and stick to something - the area of study is irrelivant as long as you're willing to learn.

If you want to do business, look into things like finance, accounting, marketing, etc. Some focused area you're interested in.
imo the key is to just choose a major you enjoy.

I never really had a plan. I had some kind of vague idea of being an editor at a major publishing house, but the more I got to know about the publishing industry, the less I wanted to make that my life.

I fell into IT because playing with computer hardware had always been a hobby of mine. now I'm just trying to save up money for grad school while I try and figure out what I want to go to grad school for I'm currently leaning towards technical writing.

well things i enjoy are movies music and games but i dont think they have majors for those lol....well any majors that would be useful.

I was a computer science major, and i think i will in the end prob have a CS major with a biz minor since already have a bit of both. I just dont know about calc2...Calc1 is giving me trouble.

just think, what do you want to learn about...not what you want to do. If you like science, then you have tons to choose from, and keep narrowing from there....life science, physical science, and on...do you like technology? then maybe to w/ engeering.....if you like to write, then maybe you should point to the english direction, and narrow down, perhaps, journalism, english major, etc etc. do you like to read? then maybe history? do you like to think and ponder about things? then maybe philosophy........just pick what you like, and keep narrowing down until you get somewhere....

Biochemistry.

There are a lot of jobs in the bio-medical and bio-technical areas. But you need a PhD, MD, etc to do more than be a lab tech.

EECS (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science). Yeah, they sort of stick them together here, but whatever. No job yet, still a first year.

if you want to do business, and have opportunity to expand, but also like engineering type jobs, you might want to go into a career of consulting. If you work for a company like Deloitte, you can get good contacts as an employee there, and by the time you're ready to leave and grow, you'll have a fat address book full of contacts.

Computer Science with Technical Minor in Management, hoping to work for Deloitte some day.

biochemistry and cell biology degree from UCSD... plan to find a job that in no way relates to biology. being at UCSD has made me hate bio but i was half way through college before figuring it out. change majors and stay another year? im not going to pay any more to this soul sucking school. yeah... im bitter.

calc was giving me trouble, i got B- and C+s in those classes, I think i got a B+ once, I took about 4-5 quarters, i dont' remember exactly. For my Computer Science courses though, i get Bs and As. If you can stick it though calc,, go for it man!
