In the current state of the US Senate, is there a majority or a plurality?

I would gess a majority since it's mainly a two party system. You either have more than half the seats or you don't. I guess there could be a few independants thrown in there to maybe knock it below 50%, but that wont last for long if it's the case. Republicans are expected to gain a few more seats this year.

Same for the president...oh wait, we don't really know how many votes either one got...

You counted wrong.

Plus a republican deciding in case of a tie.

Why do some media outlets call it a majority and some call it a plurality?

Remember someone named Jim Jeffords??

There is no majority in the Senate... majority is 1/2+1... and the dems which have the most have 50 seats, and they would need 51 or more seats to be the majority. But then again, the president of the senate (Cheney) is a Republican and would probaby vote on any close bill. So although he isnt counted in the 100 senators, there really are 50 republican votes and 50 dem votes. Quite odd...

Liberal media outlets are boasting about their "power" while Fox News refuses to acknowledge that what's his name from Vermont actually gave up on the elephant.
