<< I would gess a majority since it's mainly a two party system. You either have more than half the seats or you don't. I guess there could be a few independants thrown in there to maybe knock it below 50%, but that wont last for long if it's the case. Republicans are expected to gain a few more seats this year. >>

There is no majority in the Senate... majority is 1/2+1... and the dems which have the most have 50 seats, and they would need 51 or more seats to be the majority. But then again, the president of the senate (Cheney) is a Republican and would probaby vote on any close bill. So although he isnt counted in the 100 senators, there really are 50 republican votes and 50 dem votes. Quite odd...
