FOR THE LOVE OF A GOD (you pick) can you all stop frothing at the mouth and READ THE DAMN ARTICLES. Even FOX pointed out who did the violence. Folks like these were at the Black Lives Matter protest causing a lot of the destruction. The have been glomming there way onto a lot of protest all over the country for years now.

U.C. Berkeley students protest Milo Yiannopoulos | Fox News

17 hours ago - U.C. Berkeley students protest Milo Yiannopoulos ... which was canceled after a smaller group of 'black box' anarchists set fires and damaged .

The university blamed “150 masked agitators” for the violence, saying they had come from off-campus to disturb an otherwise peaceful protest.

Black-clad protesters wearing masks threw commercial grade fireworks and rocks at police. Some even hurled Molotov cocktails that ignited fires. They also smashed windows of the student union center on the Berkeley campus where the Breitbart editor’s event was to be held.

I had to, very calmly, explain this yesterday at great length to a couple people at work who were going all "intolerant left" and "this is why Trump won, libruls" on this story. They actually got it eventually and agreed that the actual rioters were not students and incitement by the speaker was intentional. It's like peeling a huge onion to get past the talking points supplied by fringier media.

Funny this hasn't been the topic of discussion nor has it had a honorable mention at work the past two days. Most of the conversations are on the Superbowl and how it will affect traffic in Houston this weekend.

I'm thinking that eventually one of these thugs is going to be taken down with a good punch in the throat and we'll have a face and a name. I'm looking forward to that.

I have yet to find something more important to Texas than football. This includes religion, politics, or imminent planetary destruction by an asteroid.

Beating people with metal pipes (poles) definitely raises the bar - pun intended. The antifa crowd, and the like, needs to be squashed - soon. The left needs to disown these thugs or like it or not it'll be guilt by association.

Shooting someone for protesting is not any where near the same level as breaking windows and ATM's.

I disagree with violent protests, especially any violent protest against another person. And there was absolutely no need for it in this case, but if you watch the videos it was a very small group of people doing the damage, so this shouldn't be framed as "the left."

This is true, it was one of the first things I noticed after moving here. These people think and dream football 24/7/365.

It is concerning news from a national security perspective. Obama was essentially hands off (shocker) when it came to addressing the far left radicals. I can't completely blame him because you don't want to respond with potential bullets when the most serious crimes being committed are trespassing, disturbing the peace, vandalism/property damage, and minor assault.

The issue though, is that the small group of violent rioters has come to understand too well the rules of engagement and they continually try to poke and prod the line to see how far they can take it. At some point, bullets will fly, and it may come from either side. Who will the most likely victims be? Probably your average peaceful college age protestor.

Kent State wasn't that long ago and it seems like we are doing nothing to stop another one.

The left and the university DID disown the thugs in no uncertain language. Please read the story. They are very upset that these violent non-students broke into a peaceful protest. Please read the story.

Violence is not what Cal stands for. Violence is not what the Golden Bears should be known for. Our Cal family stands for peaceful expression and the Free Speech Movement. That is a right that was expressed early on this Wednesday night before it was hijacked by agitators who do not represent the viewpoints of our university’s student body and our alumni base at large.

They have.

but you don't care. Maybe when the right disowns like-minded conservative muslim extremists and christian clinic bombers, muslim killers, black church killers, government facility bombers. All the same religious zealots.

Maybe then the "rest of us" can find a common, rational ground to get along again? Dunno.

Nope. Now the narrative is defunding liberal colleges. Funny how that plays exactly into what milo was trying to do with the trip. I bet the masked men where paid alt right yeehadists

Good! EVERYONE needs to get behind slamming these people. I have NO desire to see people's 1st amendment rights get threatened because of a**wipes like these. And I'd say the same if it was righties doing this.

they weren't alt right yeehadists. These are the same asshats that had been invading the Oakland and Berkeley BLM and Ferguson protests several years ago--the ones that also made news for rioting. It was pretty crazy there, and I was saying the same thing here in ATP&N when that was happening.

Silence form the right, obviously, because they only see "liberals allowing this to happen!"

Berkeley, especially, has a pretty long history of outside instigators showing up and co-opting their protests. If anyone here recalls that multi-year protest regarding the stadium renovation, which meant tree-removal, when then meant "hippies sleeping in trees," it was the same thing. We had a handful of people sleeping in a couple of trees for, I think, 2 or 3 years? to prevent those trees from being removed. THAT started as a single grad student camping out in a tree, who eventually climbed down and left after about two weeks. However, some non-UC local hippies showed up and took over the protest. Those are the folks that stayed for the remainder of the time and were far more intractable.

Oh, I do care. I'd condemn all the ones you cited; if not here, in other forums. But you don't care that I care, so whatever. 🙂

For those on the left condemning this, I thank you. For those on the left that have condemned the items that zin mentioned below, I also thank you. I've said it before (and pretty sure I've said it on this forum) that I hold to the quote attributed to Voltaire - 'Though I may disagree with what you say, I will defend to the death your right to say it.' Not sue I have the exact verbiage, but that's what freedom is supposed to be about.

Did Donald Trump condemn his supporter murdering a bunch of Muslims in a mosque?

as a leftist I am anti gun but I do not condemn violence. I think violence is good and social services for illegals is good and cops are bad. The bible is bad too. Haircuts and deodorant are both bad. soy milk is good. I think liberals schools should get all the money and military should get none.

So we're back to "she wore slutty clothes, she's part of the problem" argument. No, that's bullshit. There is no lawful speech that justifies violence and intimidation. Nobody exercising free speech - provided it's within legal limits - should be blamed for any subsequent violence. That is blaming the victim.

A lot of people seem to be going with that "we don't condone violence, but...." logic where the speaker is blamed because he said something that was offensive to some. That's flat out bullshit.
