Why is everyone getting so worked up over a little snow? I mean, come on, 40 inches? Hah, I make $250k per year, I will just have someone shovel the snow for me. I won't tip them though, because tipping is stupid, and I will pay them with a credit card because I have not carried cash on my person for years. Anyone who carries cash these days is stupid. By the way did I mention that social media is stupid? Anyone who has a facebook account is a dumbass. /ATOT

TBH it actually does look like quite a decent amount of snow. It's on par to what we'd call a good snow dump here and it would definitely slow us down a bit if it happened on a week day. Pro tip though, back in your driveway when it's winter especially if there's going to be a storm. Makes it much easier to get out.

2+ feet (that's 61 centimeters for you!) in 18 hours is a pretty good amount of snow, even up north.
 
So in pure DC fashion of fucking up something as simple as measuring snow, Reagan Airport retracted the earlier report of 21.4 inches due to possible improper measurement. Fucking idiots, only in DC can we find the only airport to screw up snowfall totals.

The way that the snowfall has been measured at National in this storm has led to snowfall totals that could be much lower than what has actually fallen and may have unnecessarily withheld the storm from ending as one of the top 3 snowiest on record.

This has to be a joke, 22 inches fell in Arlington so pretty sure >20.5 fell in Crystal City/Alexandria to make it the 2nd biggest snowfall total. But now we won't know until they can "look through the data":

10:00 p.m. ET: As this historic snowstorm winds to a close, there's meteorological scandal afoot in the DC area. The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang reports the city's official snowfall observations, taken across the Potomac River by FAA contractors at National Airport, may have been conducted improperly. The issue is that a snow board, which helps provide a more accurate measurement, was not used—even though it is required by NWS guidelines. Jordan Tessler, a DC-area meteorologist, conducted a quick analysis arguing that DC's official snow total should be more like 19.5 inches rather than the 17.8 that tentatively was measured. While that may not seem like a huge difference, it would move this storm into third place in DC history—up from the current number four ranking. Things like this matter to die-hard weather nerds, and also to the historical record city officials use for planning for future storms. The Weather Channel reports the National Weather Service has "retracted" the measurement in question—which will likely be examined by the National Weather Service in more detail, and possibly adjusted.

Holy hell, I'm definitely no longer in my teens. Shoveled my ass off and my back is aching terribly.

eat some dates and or bananas. you're low on potassium. For real back pain, I eat like 15 dates which is the equivalent of like 10 bananas in terms of potassium content.

Do you exercise? Parts of our bodies ache because we don't use them regularly.
 
Gonna go out at 10 to start shoveling. Not looking forward to it. Shoveling snow dicks up my back. I also need a better shovel. I use a coal shovel, which is fine, but wet snow sticks to it, and makes it a pita. I want to get a grain shovel.
 
Waiting for the apartment complex crew to come through and clear off the walkways so I can go out and tend to my car. Unfortunately I live in a building in the back corner of the place, so it usually is one of the last ones they do. In the meantime, I'll have another cup of coffee.

That's a shitload of snow. Good luck getting out of the driveway though. Worst part for me is waiting for the plow to come. Hopefully. Sometime. In a week. That was my problem last year. Got 28 inches in two weeks time. Saw a plow once. And that was at the end of week 2 when most of it had already been shoveled off by people on my street.

the pics look similar to when we got 40"+ in 2010.
