MAJOR road idiocy (often a precursor to road rage)...

...let those idiot drivers on the road smash into me.

Case in point:

I drive a 1996 Nissan Sentra. It's reliable, clean, economical, and not a POS, but it's getting older and problems are increasing.

There is one intersection in Ann Arbor where it's almost a sure thing that I'll have a near-miss on any given business day. It's a two left turn lane intersection (there are two left turn lanes), and one of them turns into a right turn only lane after the intersection. Ignorant idiots always try to squeeze into the lane I'm in (I always go straight). Here's a mockup of the intersection.

Today, I was at that intersection and that exact scenario happened. I watched it with my own eyes as the lady didn't even look as she sort of drifted over near my car. If I hadn't honked at the last second (she was about 2 feet from my passenger door), she would have surely sideswiped me.

Now, the real deviant attitude comes into play. Sometimes I just want to let them hit me because they're SO STUPID. There are multiple signs advertising that their lane is right turn only, but still, without fail, I have an opportunity to let an accident happen about twice a week. At the best, my car would be totaled (if they hit me hard enough  ) and at the worst, I'd be able to yell and scream at them for being a fvcktard.

But, because of the good person I am, I usually just flap the bird at them and drive off.

For any Ann Arborites, this is the Ann Arbor-Saline Road @ Lohr Road intersection.

C'mon - I spent about 25 minutes on that mockup...the least you could do is comment! :p

I f34r two-lane turn lanes. I had a van sideswipe me once in one as he cut his turn too short (he was over the dotted line a good 4-5 feet!)

So if they smash you and you die then U lose. If you live then U get new car.

Hmmm, live or die.. this is such a hard decision. LOL

Just had my first accident on last Sunday myself. Bullsh*t spanish guy couldn't slow down. I was waiting to get out. With his fast speed I thought he was going strait but at the last second he slam on the break and turns. I couldn't stop in time and hit him. WTF. My entire day ruin. Had to deal with insurance and all the sh*t stuff. His fault and I had to pay for it.

One lady came up off the loopdy loop thing on the highway (highway-to-highway ramp), didn't look or anything, just starting moving over at top speed. We were bumper to bumper too, my friend in the passenger seat could have smacked her in the face we came so close. She didn't give me time to do anything but swerve out of the way, thank god the other lane was clear.
She was coming over fast.

There's a similar intersection near me that I drive every day when I get off the train. I'm one surly bastard after ~12 hours of work, subways, and humidity and rarely does someone not try to cut me off at this intersection. I think I'm doing an excellent job of dissuading the general population from trying this. Unfortunately I have to do it one driver at a time.

Uh...did you rear-end him or pull out in front of him? You assumed he was going to do some thing but he didn't and it's his fault??

NEVER assume what another driver will or will not do!!

Seriously - that's the stupidest thing. With the number of times per day I'm sure it happens, you would think people would GET A CLUE.

1) How much distance is ther efrom the first turn to the second?
2) Are there signs BEFORE the first turn to let people know that lane is turning into a right turn lane?

If 2 is a no and 1 is Not Much, then I'd blame whoever designed the intersection. If someone makes a lefthand turn, there's no reason to suspect that your new lane will become a right turn only lane. So if you've never been there before, what are you supposed to do.

But if 1 is that there is plenty of time to move over, then yeah, if you want a new car, let them hit ya. heh heh.

1) There's about 200 feet once the turn is made to switch lanes.

2) Yes. There is a sign at the traffic light of each lane. One says "Shopping Center ONLY" and the other says "Thru Traffic ONLY."

People are just MORONs. :(

I was driving behind this bitch in the middle lane and shes going man slow. Just when there was enough room, I changed to the right lane. Aparently she wanted to do the same, but I wasn't going to slow down to let her in. She flips me off and I smile and wave. If you can't handle your car, take the damn bus...

I'd still blame the civil engineering behind the intersection. Or, more accurately, I blame the fact that the intersection is far more the exception rather than the rule. The people aren't necessarily morons for being confronted with this. Chances are, they won't do it again.

IMHO, the engineers did a great job with the intersection considering the crowded area they were given. The lights are timed awesomely, the signage is almost perfect, and the lanes are clearly marked. If I get a chance, I'll take a pic of it sometime and bump this thread up.

I'd say the people are idiots.

However if they have never driven there before that is still NO Excuse.

Now I'm a good driver, but if i happen to get stuck in a lane that has to go somewhere I dont want to go, and i realize that I cant really get to the other lane, I just suck it up and stay in my lane, wait till I can turn around and get back to the way i need to be. 15-20min wasted is nothing compaired to the time thats going to be wasted when you get in an accident.

DING DING DING! Correct. It's not like the lane just ENDS...the people in the lane have an opportunity to turn right into the shopping center and then come out again.

That's what I do if I'm in a confusing situation. I make sure not to piss other drivers off (because I know exactly how it feels) and I just take my time and wait for a good opportunity to get on course again, all the while not making any idiotic traffic maneuvers.

There's a spot right near where I live where there are three northbound lanes. The right-hand lane is right-turn only and is marked with *two* signs a couple hundred feet apart. However, people will stop in that right-lane and sit and wait until traffic clears enough they can get over and continue going straight. Most people will go ahead and move after they hear my horn going constantly.

And, the thing is, if they turn right and keep following that road, it horsehoes back around to the next traffic light up the road! They'd lose 2 min., tops, of their life for making a stupid mistake and not reading the signs.

I hate that - people are SO impatient! Personally, I like driving, so I'd probably take the scenic route on purpose! :)

Letting them run into you (which is purposefully causing an accident IMHO) is not a good decision. If you claim the accident with insurance your rates will typically go up whether or not it was your fault. And what if the bad drivers don't have insurance? You'd be better off to write down their plate number, make friends with a DMV clerk, get their home address, and kidnap their dog. Leave a nasty note like,

"Remember that one time you cut off a guy in an intersection with 2 left turn lanes?
Of course not, because you are a dick and you do it all the time.
Well, now you have no dog.
Love, that guy
P.S. Call me if you want to party. XXX-XXXX"
