How many of you would turn him in if he was a friend of yours or a family member, it's cool to be all righteous online but when it's real life no one has the conviction. By the "a law is a law" argument, every time you see a speed, someone should right down your plate number and turn you in. If people could just mind their own damn business, a lot of the drug violence would stop. A good part of it is because of snitches. But i guess no one on these forums has ever broken a law, so it's all good right?

By the way each movie costs neflix less than 2 dollars, on top of that its an expected overhead so its not a big deal to them. But go ahead turn him YOUR A HERO!

I think he SHOULD turn him in. A dishonest person in the mail system especially delivery means trouble. Sure you might try to justify his stealing from Netflix but who says he wont take one of YOUR packages next time?

If someone is willing to steal DVD's what is going to stop them from stealing things of greater value? Obviously not his own morals.

In any case turning him is not screwing over his family - the mailman doing that is. What is he teaching his daughters?

I think that's a completely glib, intellectually lazy answer. Every Netflix customer (and, for that matter, every postal customer) is effectively paying for this guy's theft, and this is in no way vitiated by the fact that the direct victim is a corporation. Although the OP clearly has no legal obligation to turn this postman in, to me it's a moral imperative.

Under your alternative course of action, your neighbors should, if they see your house being broken into, shrug and say "meh - that's his problem - he probably has insurance."

I remain disappointed that our culture has become dominated by what I regard as a me-first/your-problem-is-not-my-problem mentality. I see this situation as an example of that.

I am just not lucky enough to be able to spend my days on the phone with the cops.In my neighborhood I count it as a blessing to be able to walk to my apt with my head down and chin up safely.I mind my own business because I HAVE to.

1) How is your head down and your chin up at the same time?

2) Ohhh freaking booo hooo. I live in a bad neighborhood, I work 2 jobs and go to school. I would turn someone in for this. The reason you "have" to mind your own business is likely because if someone offed you the neighbors wouldnt turn in the culprit even though they know his name and where he lives. Why? Because they "have" to mind their own business. The very idea is circular and feeds off of itself.

Update from OP?

hopefully, you're not serious.

1. 100's of dvd's are disappearing from the same post office... no one can put 2 and 2 together and figure out what's happening?

2. "a guy I know asked..." Then, it's the father who steals them, but the son who sells them. And, the OP knows that "the extra money he makes from the DVD's go towards groceries and clothes for his 2 sons."

3. OP knows that the "guy I know"'s father is 47 years old and has been working at the post office for 15 years. I don't know about you, but I couldn't give the age, place of employment, and number of years employed there for any of my friend's fathers, particularly if it was > 2 or 3 years.

4. This guy needs to resort to stealing to pay for food and clothes... on a postman's salary after working at the PO allegedly for 15 years?? They don't have a mortgage, they rent ("stopped by his apartment") Where does his salary go? And, even if they *did* need extra money, do you really think he could steal enough and sell them at $3 each to make a decent amount of money to make it worth the risk?

5. "the problem is this guy knows where I live and might get even for me turning him in." I thought it was the son he knew. But maybe. But, it was the son who offered to sell him the movies, and according to the OP, the son who retrieved the movies when the father most likely wasn't present (inferred from statement son made.) How does the father even have a clue then, who potentially turned him in. Unless, of course, the OP is the only one they offered them to. But, that contradicts the statement that the dvd's were stolen for extra money for food and clothes. (note: it was "extra money he makes" not "extra money he will make")

Any of these alone wouldn't necessarily be reason for suspicion.
But, all of these together??

At best, the story is highly embellished. At worst, a complete fabrication. I don't doubt the OP based it on something... maybe a dozen dvd's, but certainly not two huge boxes and they steal them to pay for food.

edit: and it's "their opinion" not "there opinion." However, many people in this forum apparently form an opinion about people who make that kind of mistake. They're entitled to it. :) :p

You should report to police. I am a netflix customer and would piss if someone stole my movie and have to wait for 3 or 4 days to get another one.

I was a USPS worker last summer and what he did is illegal. During orientation the postal inspector came in and basically straight-faced told us not to do it. The postal police is probably already watching him. Trust me, I know.. they're ALWAYS WATCHING.. behind the glass screens. There are cameras placed next to each other and they circle around each floor. There must be at least 100 cameras on each floor...surprised they haven't caught the mofo yet.

I'm not looking to debate the issue - I'm looking for an update from theOP. However you seem to be impressing yourself...don't let me get in the way if it feels good. ;)

jjsole, if you would read this post, it should be clear that the OP is full of sh!t. It's been YEARS since I was in school, but when I was a kid, we had a tour of the P.O. Cameras galore. You're not going to get away with it, at least not long enough to accumulate hundreds of DVD's.

edit: Yeah, but then again, I'd love to see an update too. Maybe the OP will give enough away that we can be 100% positive he's lying.

Then how do you explain the ACTUAL CASE (yes, it's real) where it happened as reported by a fellow ATOTer in this very thread? And in that case, it wasn't hundreds, it was thousands.
