I don't usually pay much attention to my kid's endless card games, but this week at the card store it looked like they were playing something different.

It was Magic Unhinged. Not anything like the old Magic game I remember - this is a parody??

Any Magic Unhinged fans here?

It was Unglued, and if you were into MTG the cards were quite funny.
Let me correct that, It was a parrody of MTG, but they were actual MTG cards.
They could be used in a game if you wanted them to be.

The kid tells me that Unhinged is the new! now! limited time only sequel to Unglued.

I think I used up my allotted mom-teen conversation minutes o'the day with that short question, though.

They need to re-release "classic" MTG, limit it to about 2nd Ed. or maybe Ice Age rules, and have it as a stand-alone from the "OMFG we need to sell more cards and introduce unnecessary rules" they've had going for the past few years. Me and some friends play that way once in a while, easy since none of us have bought cards in at least five years. My last purchase was a couple more Kird Apes to get me up to a set of four. I love those little bastards :)

Damn there are a lot of "sets" to this game. Anyone give a quick roundup on how it's even played?

The players are wizards or somesuch, the deck of cards is their spellbook, and their hand comprises the currently available spells. You start with 20 life points. You can then summon creatures, which can attack and defend. Spells can be used to directly damage creatures or other players. When creatures attack, they generally can't specify what they're attacking, other than the player (IE the defending player can use creatures to block, or not block and take the damage).
But then there's cards that bend or break any of the rules.

From player to player? Traditionally, when a game starts, the first card of the deck is flipped over as the ante card. On a larger scale, you buy them. You can trade them with other players, of course.
