A friend of mine has one, and he likes it a lot. For more than one person, I'd agree with it being limited, but it's good for one person use.

First, despite it being called a blender, it's more a chopper/mixer. Sure, it makes smoothies well, but that's not exactly taxing for anything. On the other hand, trying to chop/grind stuff that's more than semi-liquid, good luck. Horribly underpowered compared to "real" blenders and it seems the longevity of the motor is measured in uses, not time.

If you need a smoothie machine exclusively, it's not bad, but there are better. If you're looking to chop/grind/grate anything, I'd look into something a bit more conventional and substantial.

I should have pointed out, that it's primary use would likely be smoothies.
Sure other things would be mixed blended (like my malts!), but she'd be using it a lot for smoothies I guess with occasional other junk.

Just check out the Amazon reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Bullet-E...owViewpoints=1

We have the baby version of it, which works fine. Probably not the best for larger jobs though. I'd rather just get a traditional blender for home use. Look for a good one because so many of them are cheaply made crap nowadays. I guess for ~$50 it's not bad. If you just buy a random $50 blender from Walmart you'll probably get much worse results.

Works great for fruit smoothies, easy clean up since it's so small.

If you want a blender, you want a Vitamix. They are actual commerical-grade high speed blenders.

Blendtec Blenders are also top-of-the-line.

When you're trying to make a slushie and you your blender is starting to smell like burnt motor windings, you'll understand why you should have gotten a vitamix or blendtec.

aren't vitamix and blendtec the same brand?

I've been pretty happy with my Ninja, and it's got a single-serve attachment for when all I want to do is blend a smoothie in the morning. I'm not convinced that a vitamix is worth the $400 price tag for a typical user.

OP, I used to own one (it lasted 3 years). What you are seeing is mostly marketing hype. I bought the "baby" version at a discount at Kohls (the only way I would have bought it). The newer, "Nurtri-bullet" is basically the exact same blender as the "baby" but with more power. People see these commercials for these things and think they are going to change their lives ... but ultimately find themselves overpaying for an overhyped blender.

When my MB was dying my wife went out and bought an almost exact replacement for $20. It works well at what it was designed to do. It it a simple tool ... not a life-changing epiphany.

Go with a decent cuisinart or kitchenaid. I have one of the latter and it sees hard service. "As seen on TV" to me is the kiss of death. That may be harsh but I'd rather see good reviews than flashy "buy me" ads.

was at my parents yesterday and my mom picked one up. really easy to make smoothies, and real easy to clean. I have a vitamix at home though and it's like comparing apples to oranges, the magic bullet makes a pretty good smoothie for the price

If you're making single servings daily, this will work as I'm using it now. If you're making for a party or other stuff, get the vitamix.. I use this commercially for my haagen daz shop

because its bigger, you have more to clean.

You mean everyone at your party isn't walking around with their own, color-coordinated mixing container full of beverage?

That infomercial will forever be ingrained in my memory.

I have the ninja blender set http://www.amazon.com/Ninja-Professi...=ninja+blender

I got mine on woot way back for like 40 bucks though. I use the smaller one ALL the time for dicing onions/bell peppers and its very easy to clean. The thing also powders crushed ice into "snow" so you can make snow cones. snow cone concentrate can be bought on the internet for very very cheap and it last a very long time.

The bigger ones work great also, but I dont use them often, since the smaller one is usually good for 1 serving of a frozen drink.

I had one that lasted a few months. One night the O Ring broke and wrapped itself around the blades so that burned the motor up pretty bad. Replaced it with a Vitamix.

Yep...while there are cheaper blenders...these two are the best on the market.

Our daughter had a Magic Bullet. It worked for smoothies and such, but sucked at anything else.

If you have the extra $$, go with the Vitamix. We use it almost daily now, and even make hot, near-boiling soup in it.

I've never had the felt need for a blender (or food processor).

Anyone tell me why I'd need them? I'm kinda interested.

Very different brands with lots of loathe towards each other. Blendtec took vitamix to court for copying one of their designs and won. Both are excellent blenders tho.

You don't need one.

No one needs a rice cooker either.

There are people that find either or both useful.

<---- Has a Zojirushi rice cooker and Blendtec blender and likes and uses them both regularly.

don't need one unless you're cooking foods that require one of those. couple of examples that come out good if you use one.

cauliflower mashed potatoes:

banana ice cream:

I use a small single serving blender to blend up about 5 - 6 ice cubes with some whey. Makes it's a little thicker and gives it some texture. You could blend it with some flax seeds pb for variation.

Lately post workout I've been doing whey, frozen fruit, 1 serving of greek yogurt, bunch of ice cubes. Maybe a little bit of sugar/fat free pudding mix for variety. Tastes awesome.
