The first one was great! It was made before the games started catering the "easy is the new medium difficulty" policy.

I'm still early in the game, the storyline experience so far is great. A cohesive story that I found gripping. I've read that it gets grindy and worse later on.

While I'm having a good time, I'm biased since I love the franchise anyway. This is not a buy in it's current state, wait til the bugs are ironed out and the price goes down, you'll get your money's worth.

So how is the game, people? Is it worth buying? Or should I wait till all the bugs are ironed out?

46 hours into the game and well...

get it on sale, don't waste full retail price on it.

Its worth about a 30 dollar game at best.... as for a 60 dollar game.. hellz no.
I am glad i got mine at a heavy discount on cdkeys.com which makes me not too sad i spent money on it.

But its very repetitious, having to cause damage to a mob boss for x amount, then unlock mob boss so you can kill him.

Guns are very limited in the game, infact the best gun so far i can say are the silenced pistols and your combat knife.

Did i mention how many times your doing the same thing over and over again to the point where your just pushing yourself to complete it so you can get to the next CG scene?

Story id say it has like a 7/10.
Its a pretty laid out story, but its just so boring to play though...

It also amazes me at how many times the "N" word is used, and how many people including citizens' i have beaten down on whenever i hear them say it.

Also that one scene where the KKK are in a meeting, oh man... i can see them raging already and sueing 2k studios.

I'm a bit surprised people care this much. The driving in 2 was horrendous to the point that I quit playing. Opinions and all that, I suppose.

It's always seemed a mediocre series with great aspirations, from my perspective. Maybe if I ever beat Mad Max and Shadows of Mordor (I find the former far more fun than the latter), I can give Mafia 2 another go.

Ahh ok. Thank you so much. Pretty much what I thought would hear. So disappointing to see something that has the power of nostalgia up for grabs can manage to stoop so low.

I picked it up recently for $20, and boy am I glad I did. The story is good, the gameplay is "ok" in general, but the loop gets tedious after a bit. The gun fights are actually fun, and I find the .30 caliber rifle to be the best weapon, along with the fake 1911 type. Driving is OK, but there's no way to not do a burnout when accelerating from a stop, though power sliding is fun.

By far the worst offender is the performance. I'm lucky if I get 50fps at 1080p on my overclocked 970m/i7-4720hq with a mixture of low/medium (with DoF and Blur off), and if I start bumping settings, performance quickly tanks. The game isn't even good looking enough to warrant the performance issues. (I would compare it to other games, but I don't have GTA V which is what most online sites compare it to - but BF1 and Titanfall 2 both look better and run better at higher settings).

For $20 though, I'm happy with it.

This is because that's how it was in the late 60s. It even says so at the beginning of the game.

Target has the physical box version for $20 right now. I picked it up. Steam still has it for $40.
