I very much doubt it came from the IRS, though Trump might want to accuse them of it anyway to for his campaign against the "Deep State" and the media.

Given that the singular item of interest in the 2005 1040 was that Trump paid more in taxes than most people probably would have guessed, I don't think it was leaked by an enemy of his. Logically, why would they leak something that makes him look better? (edit: I guess the AMT thing is kind of interesting.. if Trump continue to propose its elimination)

We'll have to try to gauge how truly concerned the WH is about it. If they think this is truly a leak, they must be really concerned that the rest of Trump's tax returns are going to be given to the media as well, right?

"WE GOT DIRT! WE GOT DIRT!!"

*no dirt*

"IT'S TRUMP'S FAULT WE DIDN'T FIND DIRT!!"

Umm, yah, thats cute.

Now go back and read everything Trump & the Republicans ever said about Hillary or Obama, at least for the last year, and compare it to what you just said.

It's an obvious move. Slick was planting those fake Air Guard docs that torpedoed Dan Rather's career.

Pulling a flattering return out and jamming it in Johnston's mailbox is something they should have done a while ago, and Maddow should have seen through it. She got played.

Not really. In the segment about the taxes it was noted that trump himself could have put these in the mail box and later Chris Hayes explained why it would have been good for trump to do this. This is simply part of a large story that Rachael has been working on.

I don't expect the lefts version of a trump supporter to understand this though.

I think they knew they had been rolled. I think they knew as soon as the WH issued their statement.

Just curious, what makes me the left's version of a Trump supporter?

This didn't prove fake news. It proves a lot of people didn't do their jobs before reporting. It also doesn't prove that Trump and his team are "slick" or particularly ingenious (if in fact his people were the ones to do this). It proves what many of us already know. Trump and his deplorables [appointed Administration] and cronies are reprehensible, underhanded, filthy-minded con-men.

Humor is a lifestyle in my opinion. I love it. I love to laugh. This isn't funny, it's despicable. It might feel like a win to somebody but it's a pathetic win and nothing anyone with any goodness within them should feel good or victorious about.

I've been less angry about politics for a little bit due to a go-around with a few... Mama always said if I have nothing nice to say to say nothing at all, so I'll just call them... *blanks*, on this forum. It somehow made me feel better about people though they tried their dangedest to show me otherwise. This story however reminded me that though I can again see all Americans as individuals (as opposed to large groups of people who make me sick and sad). I despise this Administration and their little Kumquat topper.

You do realize they gave the white house notice first of what they had in order to get a response, right? The white house, themselves confirmed the forms were real.

She didn't even know how to read that tax return, you don't apparently need to be that slick to get something over her. She let her penis get in the way.

They were leaked by the white house staff.

If Maddow actually had the ability to steal 1040's she would have gotten more than just one year, a year that Donnie happened to pay his fair share of taxes.
She would have gotten everything since at least the 80's and showed how he routinely avoids taxes except when not given any options.

If it is a Trump conspiracy, it shows he's not quite as dumb as previously thought.
I mean, he doesnt know how to fix any of Americas problems, but he still knows how to manipulate and misdirect.

How much he paid in taxes is actually a secondary issue. I don't really care how much he paid. Trump has made one valid point here - so what if he legally claims deductions to minimize his taxes. So does everyone else. Sure, if he paid low taxes the dems could make some hay of it from a policy perceptive, posing the question of why we need a tax cut for the rich when they are already paying less than the middle class. But it wouldn't be a scandal for Trump.

What could scandalize Trump is not the top pages of the tax forms which only show his income and taxes paid. It would be in all the attached detail. Does Trump owe a bunch of money to Russian oligarchs? Is he doing business with shady people? Etc. A two page 1040 form for this year or any other isn't going to show any of that.

That's probably why she had an expert on to explain things. Unlike right wing media, she doesn't pretend to be an expert on things she's not an expert on.

I don't think she stole them, but to say they just appeared in that guys mail box is silly. The taxes are from 2005, they are irrelevant as would anything from 1980s, etc.

If the the intent is to turn up some Russian connection then these people need to do the jobs of old fashion investigative reporting and dig it up.

An expert that had them magically appear in his mail box?

She had the taxes for several hours I think. She could have studied up on tax forms before breaking a story that's consumed half of America.

And right wing media brings on experts to skew things there way too.

Why is that silly? That's exactly how you'd deliberately leak something.

The WSJ is claiming that 2005 was already thought to be a good year for him because he promised not to build houses on his golf course that year, and that promise counted as a $39 million donation, so it was assumed he had some income to offset.

Nothing was skewed, dipshit. I'm also glad you think all someone has to do is "study up on tax forms" to become an expert. Lol

Donald Trump’s leaked tax return reveals that the businessman had to pay tens of millions of dollars in a single year because of a tax rule that he has specifically promised to abolish as president.

Which doesn't confirm that they *are* real in the slightest.

Nope, all Trump, all hours! This is literally what gave him the Presidency...

I'll bet this was a strategic leak by the Trump people. Really. This probably is the best year for his taxes. Maddow got played, you can hear it in her voice too.
