The white house confirmed it's legit, and by the "client copy" stamp it seems to be sourced (originally at least) from trump himself.

It's hard to imagine what could be so confusing about what can't be a simpler sequence of events, but conservatives are rather good at outdumbing themselves.

What could scandalize Trump is not the top pages of the tax forms which only show his income and taxes paid. It would be in all the attached detail. Does Trump owe a bunch of money to Russian oligarchs? Is he doing business with shady people? Etc. A two page 1040 form for this year or any other isn't going to show any of that.

I suspect that information wouldn't be in his tax returns anyway. Why run it through your own taxes when you can add a layer of complexity and scapegoats by running it through a few trusts? That has extra appeal as none of the presidential candidates for the past few (several?) elections have disclosed trust tax returns
