You think Madden is bad? Try NBA LIVE... EA has all but killed that franchise. Just horrible....

I'm a big NFL 2K fan b/c I'm a big football fan. One of its great features was the precision passing. If you think you can even complete a pass to a Tight End in triple coverage, the precision passing would give you the best chance. A lot of Madden players can't get used to it and it surprised me - any natural quarterback would want to place the ball specifically where his receiver can catch it. Older madden games were just simple passing (just throw hard or throw soft).

The visual cone, I must admit, was a great idea by EA. It weeds out a lot of those who don't know how the game of football works. If you can't complete your pass in 3-5 seconds, you shouldn't be playing a football simulation. Go find a copy of Blitz or something. I just hope the running game gets a little better. If only they took a page out of NFL2K's blocking schemes playbook.

Valkyrie,

That's exactly why I loved 2k5 so much. They redefined the modern football sim. I'm not here to bash EA - as justified as I would be - but 2k5 delivered the best running game AND the best passing game (still to date) in a $20 package! I still play it from time to time. "Money plays" were few and far between, the customization options went through the roof (almost too many, perhaps), etc.

EA has put some noticeable effort into making Madden a simulation, but I still can't help but feel like it's arcade-ish. I can't put my finger on why.

Another thing that bothers me is that 2k5 still looks better than Madden/NCAA, and that's even comparing it to the 360 versions. I know graphics aren't everything, but why are we buying these next gen consoles, anyway?

Are you crazy? You're entitled to your opinion, but Madden on the 360 in HD is light-years beyond 2k5.

As for you feeling 2k5 is simulation, and Madden is arcade-y, I'm the exact opposite. The 2k football games always felt more arcade-like to me, and I played every single one since NFL2K originated on the DC. I was a huge fan of 2K football, but IMO Madden started to outplay them around 2K2 or 2K3. 2K5, I felt, was a huge step forward, and that 2K6 would be when we'd see a real battle at the stores for units sold, but then we know how that turned out.

I'd love to see where we'd be in videogame football if EA hadn't bought the exclusive licensing. I'm a Madden guy, but competition is what keeps our games good.

I think you have it backwards my friend; QB vision weeds out the people who do know football but don't have the time or the inclination to sit around for hours learning all the little videogame exploits just so they can keep up with some 15yr old kid with a gaming tip magazine and a double jointed ring finger.

if madden 2005 is better than others then I see few people playing 2005 mulitplayer online right now and it become a pay online.
I have 2006 but it is getting hard to play online and offline game. I am trying to finish it by going to 16 - 0 and win super bowl.

I got 07 for the PC and to no surprise they didn't include any pre-made control configs for PS2 or Xbox controllers. So i've been struggling with getting the PS2 controller set up like it should be on the PS2. I've had to do this many times in the past, always confusing to try and set up everything PS2-like since i use a PS2 controller. I don't think it can ever be the same as it is on the PS2 but i think it can get close enough. For one thing the game uses number instead of shapes above the player's heads (which makes sense) but it'd be nice if someone released a mod that put the PS2 shapes over the corresponding receivers' heads. That way it would play exactly like the PS2 version (hopefully) and have nicer graphics :p - Not much nicer graphics unfortunately (turned all video details on high and real unimpressive compared to the 360 version), but at least it's not blinding me like PS2 version does

I picked up Madden 07 for xbox last night. I already owned 2005, and 2006. And they had a sale of used sports games. Buy 2, get 1 free. So I bought 2002, 2003, and 2004 for the entire colection, all for $3 and some change with my gamestop card. I win.
