Madden 07 almost here already?

There was a thread about Madden 07, but it was kinda lame. I want to get into some real discussion.

Madden 07 is almost here (Coming out 22nd). I don't know why, but it seems like it crept up on me for some reason. Who's gonna grab it up?

Was just reading about it at IGN and it sounds like they made some good changes this year, we'll see. Hope they don't half-*** it just because they have the NFL license or whatever. IGN didn't say if the vision cone thing is still intact in this year's version. You can't even tell from the screenshots they have posted, like they are trying to keep it a secret or something. I kinda liked the vision cone idea, but it needs work, was too unresponsive in 06 i felt, especially online with the lag. By the time you switched your vision cone to another receiver, you could be sacked. There was just a lot of lag in the whole passing process, even offline, just not as noticeable. So i hope if they keep it in they made it more responsive, or they just take it out, or leave it off by default.

From year to year there have been things about the Madden series that bug me that they won't change. Maybe the least important of which is the unrealistic crowds, they never try to improve on those. Still look like jagged paper cutouts, all of which stay in their seats, no one walking around the stadium at all, and always a sellout crowd, heh. Seems a little better on the 360 but not much. That's not important, but there's lots of little things like that they always leave the same every year when there's much room for improvement.

I think one of the reasons why it crept up on me was because i thought Madden 07 would definitely be the first madden i was going to play on a Next Gen console. But, here we are, with just the 360 to choose from (it's only been out for about 9 months...cmon Nintendo and Sony, hurry up, i'm growing impatient =p). I don't want to buy a 360 system+Live subscription just to play Madden 07. I do feel left out though like i'm stuck in the past. I'm just not too interested in the 360, plus i don't have enough money. I probably won't get a PS3 for at least a year anyways, not going to pay $700 for it, and, most people won't from my predictions. So i guess I'll have to wait for Madden 08 until i can play it next-gen style. I could wait and get 07 on the Wii, but that's going to be a whole different experience, for good or for worse. Plus the main thing i like about Madden is to play it online against other people (hopefully not punks who always use exploits =/). I'm not sure if the Wii's version of Madden will be online or not, even if it is i don't see that working out very well. I don't buy Madden just to play against the computer, that's for sure. So i guess i'll just be picking it up on for the ole' PS2 (sigh).

Then again, i could also get it for the PC i suppose, for some nicer looking graphics. PC versions get the least attention though, which is understandable, because the PC versions of EAsports titles never sell near as well as the console versions. Which also shows in the online PC EAsports lobbies. Can never set up a controller exactly the same on the PC as it is on PS2. I use a PS2 controller on my PC, but EA always puts in some weird controller setup thingy, and it's not the same. It seems game companies still haven't realized lots of people use console controllers for PC stuff now.

Blahblahblah, somehow i got off on a typing escapade there. Sorry bout that. Anyways, anyone else wanna chime in on Madden 07?

My idea of chiming in is probably not what you are looking for.
I was going to suggest you give up on EA games. They are a bad franchise and they usually make the gameplay worse each year while making the graphics better.
Maybe I'm biased. I started with sports games on the NES and still think those were the best ever.

I like EA games but I;m not a big Madden fan. I prefer NCAA Football. I have that for the 360 and it's awesome.

i like ncaa 07 enough, but i'm just not interested in dropping another 60 bucks for another football game this year. i'm more into the college game anyhow. i am interested to see how the franchise progresses from last years 360 bomb, mostly to see how they might progress with ncaa 08.

I thought madden took a significant step back last year, after the 2005 version that I really liked (the vision cone and the ridiculous precision passing were stupid--high pass to a tight end in quadruple coverage anyone?). I hope they keep some of the good features of last year's game (the ability to complete the deep pass, the effectiveness of play-action, the truck stick) while at the same time keeping the game simpler like the 2005 version without all the extra garbage.

Just read on the official site that Madden 07 for the PC will support the use of the Xbox 360 USB controller.

The quarterback vision control was actually kind of neat at times.. For the PS2 version, I am not sure there will be enough reasons to purchase '07.

Now, when talking about NCAA '07, this game is incredible. EA almost got it right with this one. I was very disappointed with '06, but EA has made up for it this time.

All this praise for NCAA '07: are we talking original Xbox or 360? I'm not setting anyone up for a flame; I'm genuinely curious. I've been pondering getting the 360, but the lack of (good) games bothers me.

My buddy is playing NCAA on the Playstation2. Looks like crap on their 50" widescreen but they have lots of fun.

No Madden fans around eh? I also dislike EA a lot, but what else is there? No NFL 2K# anymore. Madden games are usually pretty good, but could always be much better. I still enjoy the games though. No one else looking forward to Madden 07 despite having angst toward EA?

i'll be getting madden the day it's out and i have done so for 5 years or so now.
i do agree that lasts years 360 version was missing alot but i did like the gameplay and there going to put alot of the extra's back in this year.

To jbourne77, ncaa 07 for the 360 its an awesome game and a must own for any football fan with a 360. although you should be aware its missing some of the extra features of the older consoles like race for the heisman. However its dynasty and online play are top notch imo.

Cool. Things like that don't really interest me, anyway. If the core gameplay is where it needs to be, I'm not going to lose sleep over not having the uber pinball minigame in my "crib".

The online play is meh unless you get lucky and find a few people (and then immediately add them to friends list) who want to play REAL football and not scramble with qb, go for it on 4th and 40, go for 2 every time, onside kick every time, etc. people.

BTW, if any of you actually like playing the game like it is a real football game feel free to add Glamdring269 to your friends list. I'm referring to the 360 version of NCAA.

I much prefer the college as well... but i feel the 2007 for 360 is missing alot compared to last years Xbox version...
it seems almost gutted...

i still like playing it but i miss the old point system for campus challenge and the banner collecting.. as well as the SI covers and trying to get your team on the cover...

it just feels like all there is to the 360 is last years commentary and a new flashy graphics that takes up 3/4 of the DVD making them eliminate half the other features...

apparently 2007 on ps2 and xbox still have alot of those features and the 360 suffered the loss..

feels pretty much what they did to madden last year on the 360..

comes down to HD requires more space on DVDs.. and they have to scarifice to make it all fit.. this is exactly why they need to either come up with a bigger storage meduim.. or put huge HDs and install the console games to the HD and let them ship games on mutiple DVDs..

Totally agree with you.
I still buy Madden every year... but I agree with you.

MLBPA (1994) was and is the best baseball game ever made. I'll take game play over graphics any day.

As far as NCAA football goes, I'd like to see the pass defense made more effective. Other than that it's awesome.

You have to fiddle with the AI settings. Out of the box it is pretty easy to burn the computer pass defense.

I purchased NCAA 07 and Madden 07 both on pre-order about 2 months ago. I have a blast playing both, but I'm an extreme football junkie. Also, I love the QB Vision and the audible changes. The only people that complain about those 2 are people that don't respect football and act like throwing a end-zone to end-zone TD (Tecmo Bowl) is realistic.

I've bolded the correct answer. The vision cone is still in Madden 07, it's just off by default now, and you don't have to use it if you don't want to.

I don't mind that's it's left out. I liked the vision cone but like i said i didn't think it was responsive enough, you only have 3-4 seconds to throw and it's hard enough when you have to select a receiver to set your vision on, let alone with the delay in passing the ball in general. Maybe i'm just thinking of the online play with the lag though. Now that was tricky.

The cone was horrible.
All you had to do was get a good QB and a decent (fast) receiver and it was deep ball all day long. We had several GMs "abusing" this in our league and we turned the cone off. If you didn't have a CB to cover that WR speed wise, you were toast. Not to mention the manual control of the WR, bump the DB and sprint... with cone it was 6pts EVERY time.

Yeah i guess it was pretty bad. The idea itself wasn't awful, but wasn't executed well. Hope they fine tune every right this year, there always seems to be big problems with Madden games, always bareable, but always annoying.
