Yeah, the Military brass really has been running a train on Trump all day, haven't they?

“Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people—does not even pretend to try. Instead, he tries to divide us,”

“Instructions given by the military departments to our troops before the Normandy invasion reminded soldiers that ‘The Nazi slogan for destroying us … was “Divide and Conquer.” Our American answer is “In Union there is Strength.”’ We must summon that unity to surmount this crisis—confident that we are better than our politics.”

Mattis just compared Trump to Hitler.

This one will get traction. A lot of Trump supporters have a great deal of respect for the military, and when a Marine General speaks, they will listen.

no they won't. That's deep state.

Know what the signs will be if that gets fox airplay? Hang Mattis, Hang Fauci, Hang Hillary!

Meh. Dumpy has insulted the military and/or individual military personnel and even decorated veterans multiple times without any noticeable repercussions whatsoever from his base. They have always gone with the Great Pumpkin Man over military brass who criticized him so far. I don't see why that would have changed now.

Fact is, his worshippers are bullies and they see in him the ultimate bully, the person they too want to be. Someone who is immensely rich - or at least gives the impression of being so - and doesn't give a flying eff, says anything he likes and grabs vaginas whenever he gets the chance.

Btw, I have long since tired of ex-Dumpy collaborators who turn against him - if they had any morals at all they wouldn't have joined up with him in the first place! It was well known even before he was elected what kind of a vile person he really is, there's no excuse for them. They're just trying to look better in the eyes of history, this guy Mattis included.

I hope so, but I have my doubts. ...but I do believe it will whittle some away. The absolute core, those that only get their information from the 700 Club and Lou Dobbs, though? forever brain-trapped.

No...I don't think so. I believe the remnants of Trump bases only support members of the military when convenient to their talking points.

I live in the midst of trumpsville and none of them give a shit about Mattis.

Where the fuck did you pull that from? The military like religion, is simply a tool the right uses to advance its agenda. The right doesn’t give two fucks about the military if they don’t support their world view. What’s their world view? What ever trump says it is.

Lol the right only supports the military if it hurts libtard snowflakes.

It is at least the 3rd major story on foxnews.com. Below “feds probe command and control of riots” and “is the evidence there?” Concerning the cops being charged. A determined fox reader has to scroll a bit to see the Mattis story.

Yeah no. He will be dismissed like every other One. I’m sure I can go find tons of examples from the right ring trashing him thoroughly.

So far the clergy have gone after him, the military, intelligence agencies. All in the last day.

show me one example from the right giving any of it any thought or credit. They just don’t care. How many people that HE HIMSELF appointed have they gone after because they just don’t care?

At no point will they pause and think, well shit, everyone who works with him thinks he’s fucking stupid. Maybe I should consider that.

I sitll don't begrudge these types the thought that they need and needed to be where they were to protect the country against Trump, in all of his versions. I do beleive they went in with noble intent, but every single one of them eventually learned the depths of his craven intent.

In some ways, I think we still owe those people some thanks for that year or so that they gave--because look at it now, when Trump has whittled the US government down to a collection of the absolute worst humans that we have ever produced. Today, is actually what they managed to prevent over the first two years. So...I guess that's something? It does create a pretty clear picture of what "full Trump" means, and I think for enough voters now, it's unmistakable.

This is why he is so desperate to prevent mail-in balloting at all costs, in any state.

I could agree, this will be easily dismissed by Turmp supporters, and its easy to go "kinda late for this, eh?" from the opposite direction. I think what people might be missing is the target audience. I think its the military personnel, who could be facing a situation of being asked to go after American citizens or refuse a Presidential order.

It’s a trump supporters dream to kill their fellow Americans. They’ve been calling for or encouraging a race war almost since trump got elected. Do you think their gun hoarding and armed protests are really about haircuts and pedicures?

There are no bigger traitors to our country than the die hard trump supporter.

I think that's premature judgement. I think a lot of Trump voters are coming around to the idea that they made a huge mistake. Not that they're necessarily ready to say so, pride & loyalty being what they are, but they're not ready to vote for the guy again, either. We'll never win them all, of course, simply because decades of right wing mind rot make some unreachable.

I'm afraid not. I know people that used to praise Trump for choosing him, and literately swoon like a love sick teenager about how much of a man's man Mantis was. Now he is just a turn coat traitor as he has dared to speak out against their orange god.

You obviously don't comprehend the level to which a true Trump follower has lowered his character, ethics, and thought process to as they lap up every word this orange shit stain spews. True Jim Jones followers, and I'm sure that if Trump wheeled out big vats of kool-aid, they would drink deeply.

I doubt the Trumpkins will care. From a ‘survival of democracy’ perspective I thought the letter from the chairman of the joint chiefs to our military was more interesting. He literally felt the need to remind our troops that their duty is to the constitution. This indicates to me he feels there is a high probability that orders may come down to them that they may have to disobey.

The next 7 months are going to be so incredibly dangerous. I hope America is up to it as this is the greatest threat to our system since the civil war.

Is this where Moscow Mitch and Friends start to really consider cutting this moron loose? This just keeps getting more and more serious.

Mattis, Esper, governors, religious people he and Barr just horrified with the church stunt... these cracks are adding up. Economy in free fall and 109k+ dead Americans from covid19, and this dipshit would rather rage tweet and threaten American citizens with the military? Some F'd up times we live in.

They have chosen him over the Constitution already, but let's see how Jim Mattis putting it quite plainly makes certain exhausted Congress critters feel. More cracks I bet. Guy's got clout. Would have been nice to have heard this a few years ago though.

I think that's true at the extreme end of it. Sick cult of personality stuff-

I know a few that tolerate Trump, and not much more than that. They would would absolutely pay heed to what Mattis has to say.

Personally, I have a fair respect for those that make it to the top in the military.

The way I see it, we’re closer to mass desertion under this commander in chief than at any other time since the Vietnam War—possibly in modern history.

Defense Secretaries don’t call out a sitting Commander in Chief. It just doesn’t happen. I can’t even recall disgraced ex-DIA Michael Flynn using words this harsh with his former boss Obama.

I think what Mattis is doing is [finally] right, but I agree with your assessment that Trump won't lose much support over this. The missing element in your explanation is the lynchpin of it all: conservative media. When Trump goes off on someone conservatives ordinarily respect, Fox News and the rest of the propaganda machine will immediately oblige by defaming that person with whatever lies they can manufacture, contradicting anything positive they may have said about that person in the past.

Keep an eye on Hannity and the rest tonight and tomorrow night. I guaranty it.
