I have a system I built myself that has been running fine for a year, but recently I've had some serious problems with it (wouldn't POST). I have RMA'd the motherboard and the processor/heatsink. It's booting up now, but overheating very quickly under no load (I only have a system monitoring tool open), going up to about 50 C and shutting down with a MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION. I'm sure that's being caused by overheating, but the question is why would it be overheating so quickly under such a tiny load? Here are the specs:
Motherboard: MSI K8N Neo Platinum
Processor: Athlon 64 3400+
PSU: Antec True 380S
GPU: XFX GeForce 6800GT
Memory: 2x512MB Patriot PC3200
Could this be a power supply issue? I can post the power readings from the system utility if that helps (I really don't know what's good/normal for those). Any ideas? I'm hoping to make a run out to a computer supply store if I can figure out something to buy to help out here. Thanks.
