So according to you, it's not a Windows machine because it doesn't boot as fast, and you personally have problems with power management and all those things whereas there isn't a lot of people who have the same problems?

I did just ask a question. How you came to the conclusion that I did not is beyond me,

Your posting history, choice in when to ask questions and the phrasing of the responses tell me pretty much everything I need to know about where you're coming from.

but if that's sincerely how you want to approach the discussion, then I think this will be my last query.
I'm glad we're done with that.

Where's the Vaio-Z (2011)? 🙂

I'd agree with 'where is it' but let's be honest, most people are going to say it's way too overpriced. The fact that the Zenbook comes with 1600 x 900 screen is going to make the Z even more invisible to the guys who considers a thousand-dollar notebook high end.

It's also far from perfect despite its strengths of runtime, performance and weight combination: The graphics has issues, the keyboard is... well, unyielding and in becoming even more noodly than the '10 Z because it's a lot thinner (although it's designed to bend to a degree, sure) it's less confidence inspiring. Also the last time I heard speakers this awful on a laptop was possibly back in the 90's.

I mean, it has a place - truly informed buyers such as me for example who prize portability combined with utility. But I'm not sure that place is where the majority who're considering something like an Air is looking at.

So I bought the UX31 for the girlfriend as a Christmas/birthday gift. She was ecstatic to receive it, and really loves the laptop.

However, the trackpad is atrocious. I read the reviews and figured, how bad could it be? It's bad. I want to throw the laptop at the wall after 5 minutes, it's that bad.

I updated the drivers, and even turned off all of the multitouch gestures. It's still terrible. I will move my finger, and the pointer will stop halfway through, forcing me to start moving my finger again. Sometimes, it will drag items that I never intended it to. It will click in very odd locations. If I tap with one finger, it will work ok sometimes, but then right-click the other times. Turn tap to click off and use the faux buttons? It does the same thing, interpreting left clicks as rights. It took me forever to get a youtube video started, and to be able to select a higher resolution HD option from the little popup.

I read the reviews and knew there would be an issue. But this is BAD. I figured, touchpads have been in laptops for almost 2 decades now, it's likely the multi-touch features people are complaining about. No, it's atrocious.

I don't want to buy a Macbook Air. But at this point, I just might. Or buy a cheaper, thicker, heavier, but more powerful laptop. But the GF is loving this form factor. Frig, I do too. I want to keep the Zenbook. But not with this touchpad.

Am I doing something wrong here? Maybe I don't have the latest driver update? Maybe it's a defective unit? Are they all like this?

I'm more upset about this because it was supposed to be a gift. If it was for me, I wouldn't be so bothered.
