M1911 guys, Springfield Mil-Spec still a good one?

You didn't say how you were going to carry it.

I carry my Taurus PT-111 inside my waste band with a Crossbreed Super Tuck Deluxe, and it's uncomfortable on occasion. I couldn't imagine carrying a 1911 IWB. If you're going to carry with a regular holster, I think it might bulge too much.

PS We're about the same size.

I'd more than likely be wearing a sportcoat if I CC'd it.

There are IWB options, they aren't the most comfortable.

If I was planning to carry everyday, I'd consider other guns. My brothers Sig 380 is very compact for not being one.

getting older...turned 40 yesterday. The risk of me getting permanently hurt in an altercation is going to get higher every year.
 
If I may add my two cents to the overall defense picture. (Since you say your neighborhood is going to Hell.)

You didn't say if you are married or have a wife and kids. (Send the wife and kids to self defense classes. They should teach situational awareness.)

First: I would say get a good home alarm with motion sensor and wireless back up.

Second get a gun safe, a real safe, and keep your valuables in it including whatever weapons you will not have on you.

Third: get a couple of attack trained dogs like Doberman pincer, etc. for your property.

Fourth: get a bolted in gun container for your vehicle as your employer isn't going to like you carrying a .45 into work.

Fifth: since you want it for self defense all you need is a good name brand weapon. (Colt, etc.) Its not like you need a match grade weapon where you are participating in shooting contests. Also go to the range and practice, a lot.

Sixth: rethink the comfort and size/concealed factor. (Example: .44 magnum looks good on TV but in real life...)

Seventh: Do they even allow you to have weapons in Canada? (I thought you had to use clubs or throw rocks?)

if you mean GSM backup, yeah that's been covered...every window contact switches, every room glass breaks, 3 total motion, 2 fire, even an IP communicator and one internal camera.

An attack trained dog has no business as a pet, I don't have acreage to worry about someone scaling my perimeter walls.

120 lbs db rows is pretty heavy duty and you don't look like you have the build to do even one rep let alone multiple reps and sets.

That has exactly nothing to do with what I'm talking about. You are one of the least well-socialized people I've ever encountered - even on the Internet you stand out in sharp relief due to your persistently vain, obnoxious personality. I am just flabbergasted that you're 40 and behave the way you do. If you were 19 I could rationalize it as the arrogance of youth, but normal people move past that in their 20s and particularly their 30s. Again, you're not well.

Face it, you like everybody else on the internet are just jealous of him. We all look forward to his tales of daring and do because we all live vicariously through him, just ask him. I mean wouldn't you want to have the courage to tell some over weight woman in a Publix store that her child was misbehaving?:thumbsup:
