I bought a service grade Garand from the CMP about 3 years ago. It's a lot of fun to shoot. You won't regret buying it.

There is no THE Springfield M1A. There are several Springfield M1A's. And you should not be paying 2 grand for the basic models. 1400 plus tax. And If you buy it in store you should not be paying transfer fees.
Is it legal for you to buy it out of state and drive it across the line?

Thats probably why he said transfer fees, for the FFL to ship it to a local FFL of his.

First, I do not exactly which of the like '20' models they had on display.
Second, in NJ, and other places, you do pay a NICS check fee and a Transfer Fee
As to buying it out of state, it is probably ok, as I have a Firearms ID Card (NJ issue)
The only real issues here in NJ are the need to get a Permit To Purchase for Pistols

I got a Garand about 12 years ago from the CMP when they had select grades. I was on the waiting list for over two years before I got mine in the mail. It was in unissued condition - I've never shot it. $600 back then with pedigree. Keeps my IBM carbine company.

I picked out a Greek Service Grand Springfield at the CMP's Perry shop maybe around five years ago. A case or two of Lake City ammo and I was good to go. I really liked that rifle and the ammo was a pretty damn good deal too,

I got an M1 from this place for $650 https://www.dupagetrading.com/

I don't know why it was this cheap, this was only about 9 months ago. It wasn't a special or anything, and when I called them a guy said, "Oh yeah, we have a bunch of those." It is a Springfield receiver with newer barrel (1960's or so), and a brand new stock. I'd guess that it would be considered service grade by CMP. But it was nice not having to wait for it. Watch the web site, they might pop up there again.

Put the order form in the mail today for a service grade Springfield M1 Garand from the CMP.

I've been wanting one of these for years and decided it was time to do it before they run out and the only way to get one is to pay out the ass at a gun show.

Call your congressman, There are 78,000 garands in South Korea that were going to be sent back to the U.S. but the obama administration did an about face and blocked the sale.

"A State Department spokesman said the administration's decision was based on concerns that the guns could fall into the wrong hands.

"The transfer of such a large number of weapons -- 87,310 M1 Garands and 770,160 M1 Carbines -- could potentially be exploited by individuals seeking firearms for illicit purposes," the spokesman told FoxNews.com."

I love Obama. Great move, I would hate to see drive-by shootings with an M1.

That article burns me up.
Gun control activists take ignorance to the extreme...

the best way that worked was as a cookie for the antigunners that back him, saying 'hey i blocked all these assault weapons from being imported'

I guess the last time a group of them came in, my buddy bought one and said they are NOT in very good shape

Nice grab. I love my Garand and the M14.
Although, 2 different cartridges means twice as many to reload now.

I read on another forum that someone quoted from the CMP forum that the real reason they're being held up, is that Korea wants us to BUY them back. The problem with that is that they were GIVEN to the Koreans, not sold. So they are technically ours already, per the terms of the original agreement.

But I still hate the Brady campaigners.

I'm pretty sure we gave them to the Koreans, not borrow them. 😉
