Lyric-wise, is there an antithesis to SOAD and Rage Against the Machine - mainstream or not?

Was listening to the new SOAD song (BYOB) last night on the radio. I love the riffs and beat and all, and I like SOAD's mix of screaming, singing and talking, but I just don't care for their message in their lyrics (anti-government, anti-Bush, anti-capitalism, anti-social). I actually own their previous CD and again like alot of their riffs and "music", but I don't care for their message. Same think with RaTM.

So, I was trying to think of punk/hardcore/metal bands that deliver the opposite message - mainly less angst, more positive outlook on life, taking personal responsibility, not everything is a corporation or Pres Bush's fault, etc. And I couldn't think of one. The closest I got was Creed (which I know a lot of you loath, but I like particularly because of their more upbeat message). I guess Ted Nugent is another, but that's old school and I'm looking for more current bands.

I'm not looking for complaints about my beliefs, I'm just looking for band names, so please hold the flame throwers.

I can't think of one. Part of the reason the recent beastie boyz CD sucked me was because they felt the need to feed their juvenile political outlook on their listeners. It was so irritating.

exactly. They ruin otherwise good music with their annoying political lyrics.

I said punk/hardcore/metal, not crappy country.

But you aren't going to get one. You have to go to country to get it.

Punk isn't punk unless it's anti-establishment.

While I absolutely hate country, I concur. I'm looking back over my albums as I type this, but don't really see much.....then again, I rarely listen to the lyrics. :)

SOAD is definitely politically driven.

Personally, I can't get enough of them since I agree with most of the things they say.

Listen to a song called "Boom" off of Steal This Album. It conveys nothing but the truth.

So you want someone who bashes the weak in our society or something non-political?

Brand New - any cd is good - punk
Stuff you might like: not punk/hardcore/metal just feel good party music - I like to call it driving music

Please look at my post above. It is not punk if it isn't anti-establishment.

good point. But metal doesn't necessarily fit that description. metal is generally more about the riffs than the lyrics.

Again, I'm not saying that I would rush out and buy the stuff, just interested to see if it's actually being produced by someone.

You want a positive message, listen to some of that EMO Jesus loving crap that somehow people consider music.

I don't mean to come off insulting, but at this point, I've drawn a line in the sand with Bush supporters.

Mudvayne is pretty non-political and has a similar...feel...to SOAD.

<---- Voted for Bush

Listen to SOAD since their first self-titled album with the huge hand on it.

then leave the thread. I wasn't looking for an argument about my beliefs, just if anyone knew of any bands with the opposite message of those that I listed. And I don't necessarily think that SAOD and RATM are anti-religious as much as they are what I've already listed.

And btw, while it shouldn't matter, I am not a religious person in any sense. But, I do own a few christian speed metal albums because I love the riffs and music. don't care much for the lyrics, though.

Maybe by the same people who think young Simpson can sing. No, they aren't anymore punk than Good Charlotte.

I apologize CPA, I kind of stepped out of line by my last comment. I guess I just have that "always question the answers" mentality.

Back to your topic though, I thought you might really like Killswitch Engage. They have some AWESOME riffs on "The End of Heartache" and although they may not be "positive", they don't have any kind of political/religious influence.

Tool and A Perfect Circle aren't politically preachy (well, don't pickup eMOTIVe by APC, political cover songs). They aren't exactly fans of organized religion, but both are spiritual (both bands have the same lead singer).
Oh, try Finger Eleven. They have 3 CDs out: Tip, The Greyest of Blue Skies, and Finger Eleven. All the albums have pretty good guitars, the vocals edit:aren't political, more introspective.
*ponders other bands*

Not my favorites, but Linkin Park/Crossfade have decent riffs, and since you're not looking for lyrics, you'll be ok with those 2.
