Lucent (Orinoco) Silver Access Card $49.97

<< I've sen silver and gold versions of these cards. What's the difference between them? >>

Silver supports up to 64bit encryption and gold supports up to 128bit encryption.

Note: your WAP has to support the same thing as the NIC supports (if your WAP only supports 64bit then getting a gold card would be worthless since you could only run it at 64bit encryption)

Very Nice Card, Great Deal too. Bought mine few months back from ubid, paid around $65.- and it works on many platforms including PPC2002 on my ipaq. No driver needed in XP.

Not that hot...Check eBay for the Dell TrueMobile 1150 card. This
is a relabeled Orinoco GOLD card and I bought one from an eBay seller
last week (set sale, not auction) for $49. There were a BUNCH available
at that price...

Might as well get the gold rather than the silver for the same price.

Yeah, that's the guy (see link above for Dell TrueMobile). You can
go to his website (www.Used-Laptop-Parts.com) and save a buck on
shipping ($5 vs $6 if you buy-it-now on eBay).

I haven't gotten mine yet, but I have a tracking number (it shipped
the same day I ordered it).

The website looks legit...Personally, I'd go for the "refurb" Gold with
a 10 day return over the new Silver for $3 more (with shipping
included in comparison). My experience with stuff like this is that
it either works or it doesn't...

But your mileage may vary.

Kwad, sweet deal from used-laptop-parts.com. I ordered the gold form the website (might as well save a buck 🙂 ) One of the few sites I've seen that actually accepts a personal check still (which I think is nice). Can't beat this deal - on my campus they suggest the cisco airoport 350, which just happens to be the most expensive wireless card, I think. Anyway, great deal. Thanks for the hookup.

for those of you wondering the value of these silver cards i just unloaded 5 last week on ebay they sold from a range of $44-$64 each. so i would say 49.00 is an average price on this great card! And to those wondering i do not have any left!

hehehehe.....WAP.......😛

Thanks I got the silver.........It'll go great with the SMC 7004 I got from amazon last month ($150) 😀

got one of the Gold/Dell ones from ebay, he had 0 in stock on his site. $55. Now I can use netstumbler. Sad thing is, I bet I can sell my old Netgear card on ebay for more than i paid for this (vastly superior) Orinoco card....

and I confirmed that these are Orinoco Gold cards (not that i doubted you kwad).

Though it's not as good as the Orinoco Gold card, that
Proxim RangeLan DS card that JustDeals has for $38 + 11 shipping
(so that's $49) is pretty decent. (I'd go for the Orinoco Gold for
$54-55 shipped, but apparently those are currently sold out).

The Proxim is a rebadged Zcom XI300 card. If you go to the Zcom site, you
can find drivers for Win9x, Win2K, WinXP, WinCE, Linux...basically
everything. There's also a firmware upgrade available on their
website to bring it up to 128bit encryption. The bozos at JustDeals
don't know this so they don't mention it on their website. But this
card is a Zcom rebadge...
