ANOTHER UPDATE:

I received my Lucent WaveLAN Silver card today from OWC (Macsales?). I only ordered it on Saturday & it cost me $56 to ship it to NH. With the help of the fine folks at the Hot Deals forum, I was able to score this card along with the D-Link (SMC) DI-713P for $151 total! DAYUMN!!!!

BTW, I noticed a hole on the end of the PC card. Is this for an antenna range extender or something like that?

Thanks,
Steve

Have any of y'all tried stumbling/war driving? Looks like it is an obsession with some people over at the netstumbler forums. I have thought about doing it, but it seems like something that would be nifty on the first try but would get old quick. Am I missing some hidden appeal? Not trying to flame anyone who does it, just asking.

<< Though it's not as good as the Orinoco Gold card, that
Proxim RangeLan DS card that JustDeals has for $38 + 11 shipping
(so that's $49) is pretty decent. (I'd go for the Orinoco Gold for
$54-55 shipped, but apparently those are currently sold out).

The Proxim is a rebadged Zcom XI300 card. If you go to the Zcom site, you
can find drivers for Win9x, Win2K, WinXP, WinCE, Linux...basically
everything. There's also a firmware upgrade available on their
website to bring it up to 128bit encryption. The bozos at JustDeals
don't know this so they don't mention it on their website. But this
card is a Zcom rebadge...

great info. i just received mine today, and it does look exactly like the one on the z-com site. question though, where is this firmware update on their site? i have went to it, and only found something called "Drivers and Utility" but no firmware update, unless it is included in here. is it easy to flahs the new firmware? any other improvements other than the 128bit encryption? if not, i might not even bother.

Got the Lucent WaveLan silver that I ordered from OWC. Came in anti-static bag and nothing else.

Markings on the back says it's 5v and 16 (bits?). PC24E-H-FC

Will test it out this weekend with my Am@zon DI-713P.

Any firmware upgrades available? 😀
