lsass.exe - System Error *RESOLVED

I get this error when starting Windows. I hit OK on the box and it just reboots. When I try booting into safe mode, it just reboots without giving me this box. The only way I can boot into Windows is with the "Directory Services" safe mode, which is strange to me.

Windows XP Home with SP2

I Googled it and looked around my registry for instances of lsass.exe, but nothing looks out of the ordinary. Supposedly there's a known problem that SP2 was supposed to fix. (Is there a such thing as a newer version of a service pack that I should try?)
