I get this error when starting Windows. I hit OK on the box and it just reboots. When I try booting into safe mode, it just reboots without giving me this box. The only way I can boot into Windows is with the "Directory Services" safe mode, which is strange to me.

Windows XP Home with SP2
Celeron 2.93 GHz, 504 GB RAM (8 MB shared as video)

I Googled it and looked around my registry for instances of lsass.exe, but nothing looks out of the ordinary. Supposedly there's a known problem that SP2 was supposed to fix. (Is there a such thing as a newer version of a service pack that I should try?)

I downloaded the offline installation of SP2 and reinstalled it in that safe mode I mentioned, and it did the trick.
