LS 400 or E39 540i?

i think the 540 looks better, and is probably better to drive. but the LS is much bigger (the E39 was considered EPA compact, iirc), and several grand less expensive (which seems odd to me). probably cheaper on the repair bill.

your thoughts?

edit: i'd get an aftermarket exhaust for the LS if i were to get one, give it a little rumble
 
as a lawyer, you'd probably want the 540. Personally I prefer the LS 400, but I think BMW is a better status symbol is that what you're going for.

LS. Definitely. That car has space!!!

Try the back seats of both, I'm pretty sure you'll like the LS. Plus it's got a more plush ride.
 
in this situation, i would rather get a suv... lx 470...

especially if ur other car is a stang...

but that is just my humble opinion as an aspiring individual in law, 🙂

lx 470 is ugly. and just a land cruiser with nicer leather.

if i were going to get an SUV it'd be the texas station wagon... the suburban. with a big 6 liter engine. but i'm not really into SUVs (although i dig the XC90, which isn't really an SUV).

why not just get a newer 5 series or a used m5.
 
Both of those cars are bigger and fancier than what most lawyers in their 20s drive, FWIW. Most younger lawyers drive more mundane cars or, if they are making good money, something like a 3-series. Even if you work at a high-dollar firm, to some extent many clients don't like it if an associate is obviously wealthy.

Personally I think the LS400 is awfully big and old-mannish for a 27-YO lawyer (though it's a great car). I'd love a 540i, but God help you when it comes time to make your first out-of-warranty repair.
 
Do you want a quiet and boring car? get the lexus. If you want a real car get the 540i with sport package. The 6spd is a must.

Infiniti and Acura seem to be the rage right now for young folks that are coming into money.

If you want something stately and slow like the Lexus, but cheaper to maintain than the BMW, the Lincoln LS is a good car.

i whole heartly agree.

this is one of the reasons i chose the g35 (well my mom, told me to get this instead)... she figured what would impress more... a civic si or a g35 (especially when i have the money to get a g35).

LS 400s look like they're about 21K, which isn't bad at all. 540s seem to be about 27K for similar vintage

lots, and i mean tons, of people in my age group seem to drive new 330s around here. way more expensive than what i'm thinking of spending.

and i am just musing at this point. i don't really know where my finances will be. hell, i don't even have a license at this point.
 
If you want a smooth ride and all out luxury get the Lexus. If you want a little sportiness in your ride then the BMW would better fit your driving style. As for maintenace costs I would say they're about the same but the Lexus would probably see less repairs because of their overall higher reliablity ratings.
 
Used GS430? Decent room. Good comfort with a dash of sport. Lexus namebadge. Moderately reasonable when looking at used.
