Low-level Format?!?!?

I installed an older Western Digital 1gig HD that has Win2000 installed already
of course Win2000 had a problem w/ my hardware and settings but before i could make any changes it coflicted w/ my Win98SE somehow
Now, no matter how i set the pins (master, slave,c/s) the bios will not see it ...in two different computers
did i fry it?
can i do a low-level format on this drive?
at this point it's a used drive that doesn't work so i can't lose much
what can i use to "repair" this?
naturally the WD tools from their site don't see it since the bios doesn't see it
any help?

Try putting it my its self on the primary channel with no other drives on primary or secondary. Do it vise versa. Also, take the MS/SL/CLS jumper out so the drive isn't jumpered. Try to autodetect it. Hope this helps.

I have tried that too
no go
I have seen some discussion elsewhere about low-level
some say they have done it several times successfully while others say that's BS
I don't even know what exactly it does but i figured this would be a low-loss way of trying it
just have no idea what software? i can use to do a low level format with

Check to see if your cables are bad if you haven't already. Use ones that are known to be good. Also check to make sure that your mobo is okay if you haven't. Try putting the HD in a dif computer and see if that works. If all else fails you have a 1gig HD for a paperweight!

guess i'm SOL
the damn thing had win2000 already on it too
maybe just play around w/ some other cards or something
the way i've learned most of what i know anyway
