lol,just say no to Atkins:D

Still curious about what your idea of a "normal" diet is.

Maybe one that isn't 75%+ meat?

I probably eat about 10 - 12 oz of high quality meat or seafood a day. I eat tofu from time to time too. I also eat fruit with every meal and I eat plenty of green salad and vegetables, not to mention nuts, cheese, olives, yogurt, oats, and soy milk.

I don't eat sugar, white flour, starchy fruits and vegetables or junk/processed food.

What do you find so abnormal about my diet?

Sounds like a normal diet to me.

Depending on your metabolism, you can eat up to like 90g of carbs per day in the last stage (the "rest of your life" stage). 90g is actually a lot, considering that you don't count fiber. Once you lose the weight, the Atkins diet is pretty much what every other whole foods diet is.

Just cut out the pure processed sugar and overrefined flour.

The high fat part is mostly just in the first phase, which is called "Induction".

The atkins diet is pretty good to tell you the truth. It basically tells you to eat healthier by eating less sugar/flour.. basically anything that is man made. (refined things)
You have to read/research in order to understand the concept. A lot of people make false accusations/judgements on the diet because of the "eat as much meat as you want" statement.

I was skeptical, so I'm reading the book. I'm quite a bit less skeptical now. Not totally convinced, but I now see that a lot of the generalizations are untrue.

Ever see the Simpsons episode where sugar was made illegal?

You could've also LISTENED to the book, as it is available in audiocd format. It's not a bad book, either way.

I lost 20lbs in 2 weeks just by running everyone morning and everynight, and taking ephedrin.

During atkins, I kept my carb intake under 10g's a day (3 miller lites), and gained weight. I even stuck to the strictest part.

Now, being a college student, i drink a 30pack of beer a week, smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a week, and do no exercise what so ever, and i haven't gained a pound.

You just took in a bunch of worthless calories:

Cinnamon rasin bagel: 65 g carbs, 2.7 g fiber, 323 calories

Plain bagel: 38 g carbs, 1.6 g fiber, 195 calories

Plain, poppy, sesame bagel: 58.7 g cars, 2.5 g fiber, 303 calories

IMO, there are much better breakfast choices.

I walked to work this morning,1\2 hour culiminating in a huge incline with my heart rate jacked to the max for 12 minutes,I'll also be using the treadmill later today. My breakfast choice was perfectly valid given my activity level.

If you say so. I think that you would get more benefit by excercing and eating healthful foods. Why do you think that excercising gives you the licence to take in worthless calories?

if you make it to 70 with all the cholesterol you are eating.

Whie flour acts as a simple carbohydrate in our bodies much like white sugar--empty calories that disrupt energy levels and insulin levels and increase body fat. The risk for diabetes increases with consumption of white bread, white rice, mashed potatoes, and French-fried potatoes (Journal of the American Medical Association, February 12, 1997).

White flour makes your blood sugar rise almost as much as table sugar.

Here's how it is prepared:

The first thing that they do is remove the wheat germ, which contains most of the food value, because it gums up their machinery. Next, they remove the bran because it leaves brown specks in the four. (By the way, both the wheat germ and the wheat bran are sold back to the public in health food stores as health foods). They then take what is left after removing the germ and bran and bleach it (with chemical bleaching agents similar to Clorox) to make it nice and white. Next, they add coal-tar-derived (carcinogenic) vitamins, package it, and sell it to the unsuspecting public as "enriched bread".

White flour is not good food; in fact it is hazardous to your health. It clogs up your intestines, creates excess mucus in your sinus passages and white flour depletes your nutrient levels as your body works to digest it.

Hope you enjoyed that bagel!

That's true. It wouldn't be part of a "normal" diet though, would it?

I don't know what her normal diet is, so I can't say. For most Americans? No. I know how much crap we eat.

Give her a break though, her people wandered in the desert for 40 years. ;)

I thought that they ate unleavened bread during Exodus? I wonder when they graduated to bagels?

Maybe unleavened bread doesn't toast well.
