Yes, but no I didn't join just for the credits crap. The magazine is awesome, plus the other stuff like my lithographs
I went to BJs with my sisters on Friday and they had copies lying around. Picked one up. Damn sister tried to steal it from me to give it to me for Christmas, but I wouldn't let her. Foolish of her to even ask.
I haven't watched the second 2 discs yet with all the documentaries and such (was studying all weekened), but the extended edition rocks the house. It explains a lot more and gives a much richer glimpse into the lives of the characters. There realy isn't THAT much more battle footage, but it is noticeable, and cool. (*SPOILER* Watching the extended shot of Legolas shooting like five or six arrows in succession was way cool *END SPOILER*) While the extra half hour of footage certainly doesn't make an entirely new movie, it did add some depth which I liked. Very worth the $30.

Does anyone here plan on listening to any or all of the commentaries? 4 commentaries, each 3.5 hrs long, would take forever to listen to. I'm not a big commentary fan anyway, because I start to get annoyed that people are talking over the movie. Heheh...

I seriously might listen to all of them. I'm personally a huge fan of commentaries, but they have to be well done in order for me to listen in. DVDFILE.COM has great reviews on commentaries and tells whether they're worth listening to or not... The LOTR:EE commentaries have been given lots of praise!
I only listened to it at certain points to see if people had anything salient to say about a certain scene (like if anyone made mention of Gimli saying "Nobody tosses a dwarf" in Moiria. John Rhys-Davies rocks.) But other than that, the only ones that sounded interesting were the one with Peter Jackson and the one with the cast. The other ones for the little that I listened to them bored the f*cking hell out of me. Just droning on and on with nary a point in sight. But I'd listen to the others, and plan to as soon as I get some time.

You should be able to find the non disc set for around 25 bucks
I plan on watching the movie with the commentaries back to back all of them, along with the rest of the special features during a LOTR party
