LOTR 4 and 5 disc DVD extended edition thread **less than a week left!!**

Let's get some discussion going on the new scenes found in the extended edition...

First let's talk about the Council of Elrond scene. WTF! Boromir goes straight for the ring, right at the beginning... then Mr. Demigod a.k.a. Gandalf launches into ... what? a spell? incantation? ... something that even Elrond is offended by, so I'm thinking its not a spell, but rather some secret ancient Valar/Maiar magic? If I had a copy of the book with me (d'oh!) I guess I'd know... too bad it's been almost a decade since I read FOTR.

Anyone want to start some commentary on any of the other "added" scenes, such as the one with Wood Elves in the Shire.

I'm pretty sure Gandalf just spoke something in the tongue of Mordor, which is sufficiently offensive in and of itself to cause the darkness and the pain. Especially to the elves, who are the "embodiment" of good and the race most sensitive to that sort of thing.

On another note, check out this screen capture from Disk 3: funny I thought it was pretty funny.

Gandalf recites the inscription on the ring (remember: "It's some form of Elvish, I can't read it." "There are few who can...") in its native tongue.

Great scene in the book.

use windvd 4 with its 2x playback with normalized sound feature. then u can nef on atot and listen like its radio or something it comes out today?

I was a charter member in the fan club... I'll be on all 3 DVDs...well, the extended ones anyway. Wasn't the reason I joined, just one of the perks.

The amazon one gives you a $10 rebate and a free movie ticket, will versions you see in stores also have these two thigns in the box? I'd buy from Amazon, but I'd rather drive to like a Best Buy and buy it so I can watch it tonight.

They had them at Best Buy with the bookends. Think it was $50. I just bought the 4-disc cut. That was $25 and includes the free TTT ticket. Those bookends will just get dusty, damaged or lost in my apartment.

already watched some of the extras and I'm excited

Just finished watching it. It was awesome. They speckled in a lot of little shots here or there, and some scenes were soooo much longer. It was much slower paced than the original, but it felt more spread out like the book.

Still, its a shame they didnt have the barrow downs or the part when gandalf takes care of the pack of wargs. I can't say I cared much for bombadil, he was out of place in the book, and I'm glad he didnt show up.

That has to be the longest movie ever though, I think I'm gonna wait until later to watch the extras. Hell, I started watching it at like 4pm and look at the time now....

Cant wait for TTT.

I have no use for the original DVD anymore, anyone wanna buy it?

I watched through about half of disc 3's extras and 1/3 of disc 4's extras.

I've spent about 10 hours with this set today...I am all LOTR'ed out...at least until tomorrow. :Q

Wow, best freakin DVD ever created. The bits with the cast are fantastic.

The new movie itself is outstanding. Particularly the new scene at the council when Gandalf recites the black speech, and also the extra Lothlorien stuff is AMAZING. The new action bits are very welcome (Legolas pounding off like 8 orcs at once, and Boromir's last stand has much more of an impact now). Lots more character development, lots of new music....just totally freakin awesome.

Holy freaking sh*t.

I dunno about the music though. It seems like they just added a note or two here or there and stretched it out, sounds a little mangled at points...

And the 10 mins of names at the end are the biggest waste of bitrate I've ever seen in my life.....

I could have done without DTS to have it all on one disc too.
